one of my artworks that i posted on reddit and here and on furaffinity too were posted on the e6 site (you know which one..), is that legal?? can they do that??? why is my art there if i don't even like the 18+ stuff nor draw it or have an account there... so it was posted without my permission, which, it's ok but that site is umm.. extreme

i know there's a takedown form but i want to know why, i'm curious

e621 in theory is a general archive site for furry art, it's not just adult stuff. A lot of it is adult stuff, but I guess that just comes with the territory of furry stuff.

I think it's technically illegal, so they've got a "do not post" list. You can ask to be put on that list and people should stop posting your art there. They do give credit, which is better than a lot of art scraping places, but it's up to you.

Congrats on making art popular enough for people to want to archive, though. :P

There's plenty of sfw and wholesome stuff on e621. It isn't just a porn site.

Was it actually e621 or was it e629? e629 hosts tame furry art and is basically the SFW version of 621.

In either case, you can contact the admins about getting on the DNP list if you don't want your stuff posted there without permission.

i browse e926 but i checked on e621 and yea.. it was still there.. thank you!! i don't mind or care if people share my art but having it be between a lot of.... extreme art is kind of uncomfortable

oh boy... that was bound to happen sooner or later to be honest. almost anyone posting art to major platforms will have someone cross post that to e621 eventually and its really up to you if you are ok with that, or want to do something about it

is that legal? can they do that?

thats really much more of a question for a copyright lawyer (which im not), but that depends on the license of the art. unless stated otherwise and assuming that the work is even copyrightable, everything is usually all rights reserved, which (as far as i know) does make redistribution illegal in most jurisdictions. if it was licensed as CC-BY for example, this post should be ok since you are listed as the artist and have links back to your profile and the post itself

but thats the neat part! copyright rarely stops people from distributing art and memes

why is my art there if i don’t even like the 18+ stuff

for all kinds of reasons... for me (when i get bored enough) its always a "the archive must grow" kind of deal. there is this sort of desire to have everything nicely tagged and uploaded in one massive archive. it doesnt really have anything to do with being 18+ or not. there is lots of non-18+ artwork on there as well, but we all know thats not what people think of first. if anything, someone saw your art somewhere and thought it should be added to e6 so others can see it too. i dont think that the uploader had any ill intentions. they probably didnt even think that you might have reservations since youre not listed as DNP

i know there’s a takedown form

nice! have you also seen the DNP list? sending a takedown request will affect one post iirc, getting added to DNP goes a bit farther. getting added to DNP will either deny anyone from uploading your art, or will only allow certain uploads under certain conditions. for example you might be able to request that only original artwork without edits is posted

hope that semi-infodump gives at least some answers :D

thank youu.

i understand, i do know about creative common licenses, hmm, i should license my art, i have to choose a license tho, but anyway!! i like browsing e926, the safe one

[–] apophasis@pawb.social 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Not sure, but I believe all the art on 926 is also available on 621, since it's just a portal with art not tagged 18+?

[–] Linkyu@pawb.social 1 points 22 hours ago

Pretty much! They both use the same database, but e926 automatically applies a safe filter on the search results.

It's exactly the same as browsing e621 with "rating:safe" in the search prompt.

You know you think you would hear about the safe one before you hear about the not safe one. I guess I missed that train 15 years ago.

But to your main problem technically no it's not legal. However, it is not the responsibility of the image board to know whether or not somebody is posting your content. If you petition them to remove it and they do not, you do have grounds to put in a dmca claim. I do not expect that they will fight to keep it up if you do not want it up.

Most hosting companies or websites do not investigate claims. They just remove content if it's claimed

I'm not affiliated with them, but I believe they post anything they find and want to feature once they find on FA and Twitter. I wouldn't say they're stealing it though. They post the source and name of you as the artist. I don't see how it's different than if there was a NSFW furry art community on Lemmy and they posted a link to it there.

They do have a safe for work version of the site too, keep that in mind.

If you still want it removed, there's a t link to a Do Not Post list at the bottom of the form so they don't post any of your art. I'm sure they'll remove it quickly
