For the people who have not yet decided on a search engine. The most EU way you can go is Ecosia or Qwant as they are building their own search index.

Ecosia is my personal pick as its also aimed at planting trees and they have quite a good browser alongside it.

How do they make money? And are they as good as kagi right now? I've settled and when I accidentally use google now I'm shocked at how bad it is.

From what I read they make their money the traditional way: ads. The difference between Qwant and Google is that Qwant doesn't use cookies and blocks trackers (unless you give them permission by making an account or enabling trackers). Since they don't save any data about the user, their ads are completely random. Ecosia on the other hand is similar to Google the difference being that it redirects its revenue towards environmental causes like planting trees. At the moment, both use results from Google and Bing which is why they're trying to create their own engine.

I use Qwant and I'm satisfied. It runs reasonably well and I honestly feel a lot more comfortable browsing despite the ads.

I want a search engine, that's like google 10 years ago, when you could actually find shit you were searching for and not useless AI generated articles with no relevant info

Unfortunately the Internet of 10 years ago is gone. Decades of SEO turned the Internet in battlefield. AI is making it worse.
