The protocol is 30 years old. It has been replaced 3 times over by thunderbold. The connector doesn't fit on most modern devices and has been replaced by usb-c.

Why would anyone want it back?

Is the wish to bring back an outdated communication protocol or an outdated connector?

Thunderbolt is already integrated in usb-c.

I know it's kind of a trend but I think that is the case because so many people identify with it.

I wouldn't have cared about the label itself it if wouldn't have come with a vast amount of knowledge and explanations for many aspects of my life. This is why I cared about this and why I talk about it with others, because deep diving into the topic has helped me learn a lot more about myself more than anything else in my life and it explains many of my interactions with others as well as other peoples behaviours.

And to be honest many of the struggles of people on the authism and ADHD spectrum are not really something that can be solved with typical self improvement tactics, it's something to manage or maybe to medicate, but if you haven't found out that you fit the label it would be impossible to figure this out.

Think about your average Joe/Joanne. Are they someone who are willing to go against the status quo? Are they someone always ready to try new things? Are they someone not afraid to express themselves and be an actual individual?

That's why it's called normal because it's the most widespread, but I agree with you, normal is not something I want in my life and that already puts me on a spectrum somewhere.

This is just my opinion. Lemmy doesn't conform to many of the current standards of reduced friction for the user. Before joining you have to figure out that there are more than one servers that you could join and make a decision which one you want to be on and depending on your choice you have to take a mini interview and/or be approved by someone to join. After joining you probably either deal with an ugly page design that someone created like in the hi5/GeoCities days or you have to choose one of the milion apps that are available for it. While browsing you have to figure out that there are duplicate communities and figure out which ones you want to subscribe to and figure out what kind of sorting works best for you on your main page. And in order to discover more communities you go to All where you see a bunch of unhinges stuff that either you learn how to block or you ignore.

By the time you are having a seamless experience you have truly past the test of being somewhere on the spectrum, because no normal person will ever put up with all this, as could be seen with the user gain of mastodon vs bluesky after Twitter went to shit. The platform with less friction even though more closed and proprietary gained more users.

In recent years we've come to the conclusion that autism is much broather than previously understood and than many more people fall om its' spectrum. People that have an account on a platform like Lemmy are automatically highly probably autistic in some way because or the barrier to entry and specific interests that normal people wouldn't even bother with.

My imediate first though was how incredibly autistic this behavior is and fits perfectly with the rest of his persona.

So you've learned today that you can just say someone's name as an equivalent to an exasperated "bro.. "

In theory it makes sense but in the past buying digitally as opposed to physically hasn't netted anyone any savings. And with the new system where the card doesn't even hold the actual game, it's an even worse offering.

Good news! Hopefully the EU will have its energy independence sorted enough to stop importing from Russia as soon as possible.

Unfortunately Signal has less features, is less convenient, not as pretty and generally unliked by people who don't care that much about privacy, which means it will never gather the critical mass to be able to move completely to it. All my contacts use WhatsApp, it's basically impossible to escape.

Like for many other people, Valve single player experiences were one of my favorite of all time growing up. I considered both Half-Life and Portal to be masterpieces. It's true they've always been distracted with multiplayer games as well, things like Counter-Strike or Team Fortress and I did play them for sure, because I was a kid and I had all the time in the world.

These days I'm not a kid anymore and so when I game I tend to look more for memorable experiences instead of mindless grinding. Obviously I remember Valve as the experts in creating memorable experiences and I would like them to keep fully exploring those talents. They don't have that many employees, but they do have all the money in the world, no external pressure, no publisher to shit on them, it's just their developers and artists and a vision. But then they use all that and create this. An Overwatch looking moba shooter, really? I'm sure people will like and play it, but is this the results of the vision and ambition of a company like Valve?

It doesn't have to be Half-Life. I remember them saying that they dont want to do another one in the series because they are looking to innovate and make something truly original. My body is ready, give me anything. I can't imagine a moba shooter really fits with this description. I'm wondering how such a low hanging concept even becomes a real product at a company as ambitious as Valve.

I hear people are having fun with the new game and I'm happy for them. I am no longer the target audience and I wish them good luck with it. In the mean time let me hear your thoughts on it. Would you like to see another single player experience from Valve?

No worry about quality when you only get one topic to enjoy for the day.

I've been using sync for a while and occasionally I go looking in the settings for the feature to hide read posts automatically, instead of having to do it manually. Other Lemmy clients have this so I was convinced sync should probably have it as well, I just can't find it. Does this exist? If not, is it something that could be added? Thanks!
