How do we disable Apple Intelligence from never being installed, but also get security updates?

Am I too high to expect this?

As in, I want updates, but none of that AI shit, like zero. Flip phone?

Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Apple Intelligence [OFF]

I’m upset that 18.2 got pushed to my phone anyway. Oh well, I see that we have no control anymore.

Oh well, I see that we have no control anymore.

Bullshit. You can turn off auto download/update in settings.

And it is. I had not updated since 18.0/1, the update before you had to turn AI off.

No bullshit. My watch has been nagging me, did not update against my will.

Gotta be upset about something! The media says so!

No, I specifically don’t want whatever it is they are passing off as AI. My phone is totally fine without it.

The comment you replied to has instructions on how to turn it off. If you turn it off, the data it uses is also deleted from your device.

I decided to upgrade from 18.2 to 18.3 (since it updated anyway) and when I logged in, turned AI off, it’s funny you say that because, it was still downloading models…..so I dunno about how truthful that is.

I forgot where I read that but it uses some local cache storage API. If it's turned off the system can free the space if it needs to. Maybe it won't notice immediately that it was turned off and will continue the download or something.

The real answer? Buy a phone older than the 15. You'll never get on-device intelligence. My 13 Mini takes great pictures, performs perfectly, has great battery life as a non-gamer. And it should get at least 3 more years of iOS updates (maybe more? phone specs have really leveled off).

Anything newer, Apple and Google will start pushing intelligence on you simply because your phone can do it.

You could try GrapheneOS as well on a recent Pixel.

I want my cake and to eat it too.

I want Linux phone, grapheneOS I thought still had Google integrations, I definitely don’t care for any of that.

Thanks for posting this. My partner is a refugee and some of her friends are targeted by their former government. I passed word to her to make sure they all know about this.
