“The Trump administration’s most influential think tank, The Heritage Foundation, is receiving proposals from illiberal forces in Poland and Hungary” This part is very interesting. Are we assuming these groups are just excuses for their own agenda, or would this even be up for discussion had they not received the proposals? Something else?

Rules (2024-08-30)
- This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
- No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
- Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
- No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism.
- Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
- If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
- Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in !yurop@lemm.ee. (They're cool, you should subscribe there too!)
- Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
- No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
(This list may get expanded when necessary.)
We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.
If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.
If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the mods: @federalreverse@feddit.org, @poVoq@slrpnk.net, or @anzo@programming.dev.
The director of the climate denying thinktank The Heartland Institute Lois Perry was spotted in Reform’s head offices celebrating with Nigel Farage after the party hit 205,000 members on social media.
The Heartland Institute was reportedly involved in the radical Project 2025 agenda, which was written as a roadmap for Donald Trump’s controversial second term, and it has been a leading voice in denying scientific evidence of human caused climate change.
So we can suspect that the US is joining Russia against UE because UE is pushing electricity against the oil&gas driven old world.
Ban Facebook and X/Twitter. They're facilitating sedition.
And Facebook and Xitter are nothing in comparison with TT. At least in Poland they are pushing „fun and trendy” far right, „common sense” far right and russian talking points into every feed. As far as I understand this is also true for most of the Europe.
The recent New Yorker article, The Cruel Kids' Table, was particularly worrying because it illustrated how fascism has moved from the fringes into mainstream youth culture. We could be looking at a generation of enthusiastic young fascists in the wake of Trump.
It's too bad that "The Great Reset" they have in mind is just tearing down democratic institutions and handing all power to fascists, because a reset that was truly great might be worthy of consideration: All debts cancelled, all bank balances zeroed, all existing copyrights and contracts annulled, ownership of homes falls to those who live in them, ownership of factories and fields are granted to those who work in them, and after a period of great confusion we start again from there.
I hope the people of USA are aware of this, as this could absolutely mean war.

“Member state sovereignty”. So they’re going to let California leave the shit-show are they?
Hi, question: how many people here first checked credibility of the media involved? Don't worry, they seem legit, I am really just wondering because I quite recently found out that not many people really checks the sources when news like this appear. Please vote: "I checked" = upvote, "I didn't check" = downvote. Thank you.
