I've been thinking about the lord of the rings a lot lately. When Frodo and Sam are headed to mordor they spend a lot of time discussing their feelings and one of the things that's been hitting me is how it's Tolkien letting his innocence speak to his experiences. He was a veteran of some of the worst humanity has thrown at itself, but when the Hobbits are facing doom they speak of the courage to hope things can improve and the empathy to understand that all people who've been through trying times dislike it and wish they had a more peaceful life

This is a pretty good take. It’s absolutely okay to be afraid. How we respond to our fear is far more important than the fear itself. The current administration wants you to feel alone in your fear so they can manipulate you. No need. We’re all afraid, so why not pick up the axe and cut down the source together?
