Winter is here.

The days are much shorter soon it will be dark for my drive to and from work. There are all of the normal work and chores just more difficult because of the snow and uncomfortable temperatures.

It’s not all bad winter does have some fun activities like snowmobiling and ice fishing. Hopefully just enough adventure to cary through to spring.

I have to go pick out a new book to read soon. Something that can get me through the too cold to do anything outside days.

Stay warm.

Djunior is super confused by this (why do you pick me up from daycare at night, daddy?). It's the first fall he really notices (he's 3), and I relive the wonder and surprise vicariously.

What genres do you like/are you looking for?

I'm pretty excited for winter, but maybe it's more moderate where I live. It just dipped below freezing for the first time the other day.

I'm currently sitting in a train in Germany - and it is late. No surprises here. I should be happy that my train is circulating at all.

Deutsche Bahn 🤬🥸👀🖕

Condolences!

When I lived in Karlsruhe, my wife and I would alternate taking the train to spend weekends together. On paper, the Lausanne-Karlsruhe trip is four hours, but because half of the trip is directed Deutsche Bahn, I think it took over six hours 75% of the time. DB management and funding seems to be the the result of peak human incompetence.

Unfortunately!

I'm not sure I've seen yesterday a single train that was not delayed.

Good news though: we arrived in Paris with 56 minutes of delay, which is just in time that the company doesn't have to refund passagers (which starts at 60 minutes)./

Good news +-; 😅

Forgot to mention yesterday that my job interview on Thursday went really well. It seems like this nursing home isn't focused on profit, but actually on providing good quality care for their residents.

Now, I need to wait. The director of this nursing home needs to make a few calls with my nursing school about signing a cooperation; I need to work 1-2 days on a trial basis for them to judge if I am a good fit (and it'll be most likely weekend days) and then I'll have to do lots of paperwork due to my retraining and all. Germany is famous for lots of contracts and paperwork and it makes it all the harder for a trainee/re-trainee to change jobs...

On the plus side, they have capacities for some of my favourite colleagues - one already sent out her application yesterday via email, two others are planning to send theirs next week. It'd really be the Best Case Scenario if we could all transfer together, put in our notice of cancellation on our current bosses desk and give a mighty middle finger to that business! However, I need patience. Next week I'll know more...

Collective resignation sounds like a great plan 😁

Congrats on the good interview!

Thanks DJ! It's a great thing to think about for sure. We already planned to quit after the year ended, but finding a place that would take a lot of us up sounded like a dream. However, I did my best to make it possible. Now the decision isn't in my hands anymore but in my colleagues.

I just hope everything will work out alright for me. It'd be a harsh cut in pay for 1,5 years, but once I've passed my exams I'd start on a pretty high pay grade with a guaranteed yearly increase. Plus it's "Arbeiterwohlfahrt"/AWO, so no worries about profits for higher-ups and tight budgets.

It’d be a harsh cut in pay for 1,5 years,

I did a similar thing recently. I left a job I hated for an interesting new on with a substantial but hopefully temporary pay cut. Best decision of mine in the last year.

That gives me hope. You know, no matter the great pay, doing something that feels wrong just irks me and I see and feel how my colleagues and me are mentally and physically worn down from that situation. It's tough as I am only a "Umschüler" (Retrainee) but once I got my "Pflegefachkraft" (examined nurse) status, I'll climb much higher in their ladder of payment. They have a wage contract and every year you'll go up a little at least once. I hope you'll soon reach a better payment too and that your new role continues to be interesting and fulfilling for you 👍🏻

Thanks! Good luck with that for you too! 😊
