I don't really understand this. It's like streaming PS5 games but exclusively from a PS5? If you're internet is good enough for streaming, why wouldn't you just download? Seems like such a niche thing. Always better to have the option than not, just seems like a strange addition.

Probably testing and prepping for that Q handheld thing. No way they make that for remote play only.

It's running Android and they don't have a streaming app for Android. I guess they could make an exclusive app for it, but seems like a lot of work for a super tiny audience.

I guess it enables quick game demos? If a mildly interesting game is 80 GB, or the devs want to let people try it before they buy it but don’t want to code a demo, there’s a few options there.

Still, you’re right, not a big use case. Xbox has an advantage due to controller simplicity. I’m pretty sure you can play Game Pass games using a DualShock, even on a web browser.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

PlayStation 5 beta firmware includes game streaming from our catalog with up to 4K resolution only for PS Plus Premium subscribers.

This update includes Dolby Atmos, more accessibility or simple curiosities such as the possibility of deactivating the initial beep, and now incorporated a feature that had been announced in June: the game in the cloud with PS5 titles.

“When it launches, cloud play with compatible PS5 games will be playable directly on your console,” Sony said in its announcement.

“This means that as a Premium user it will be easier for you to jump into your favorite games without downloading them to PS5 first.”

Sony had announced some “aggressive” plans for its game in the cloud: “We see that mobility in gaming habits is an increasingly important trend, and the cloud will be essential to allow us, or indeed anyone else, to exploit that trend,” said Jim Ryan, head of PlayStation.

One of the initiatives that Sony presented is Project Q, a laptop exclusively designed for remote play from a PS5.
