Just for the record - I feel I have to mention that the history "education" I received under the fucking Apartheid-regime managed to be marginally better than the garbage you get from PragerU.

[–] jzzvid@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Not surprised. Prager U has been gunning for their propaganda becoming official school curricula for years. It was obvious from the start with their bad info-graphics style and the fact they have been pushing their channel on children for years with the help of YouTube's algorithm. Fascists aren't satisfied with keeping their politics to themselves, they want to forcefully indoctrinate your children behind your back in the classroom.

It's time parents push back. Teachers need to strike. Students need to strike. Parents need to demand en-masse that this be removed from the curriculum or they will remove their children from the school. This is unacceptable.

Over the next 10 years it will be increasingly difficult for young Floridians to qualify for hire in jobs outside of Florida as their lack of educational qualifications become apparent.

So, if propaganda comes from the other side of the political aisle, which it does all the time in public school curriculums, would you be just as upset over it? I’m not agreeing with Pragers agenda either but when parents rally against terrible ideas being "pushed" onto their kids from the left wing loonies, they get called terrorists and trouble makers. Stuff like drag queen hour at an elementary school is supposed to NOT also be an agenda? Cmon. Please.

How about we keep ALL politics, agendas, propaganda and other crap like that out of classrooms and get back to teaching kids useful things like reading, writing and arithmetic? Dump the heavy social activism crap. Stay out of that stuff entirely. Just teach the basics.

Fascist because I want schools to be politically neutral and cut the crap? I found people who dont know what the word fascist means but they read it on some left wing blog and now attach that word to everything they disagree with. LOL. Well played.

What is political neutrality to you? You'd be ok teaching the communist perspective in schools along side capitalism then, right?

[–] TheMage@lemmy.ml -3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Not sure about that. Our country doesn’t do communism, thank goodness, so there is little relevancy in spending time on teaching it. Wouldn’t the students be better served to learn about how our economic system works so they can take advantage of its positives and better manage the negatives? Either way, there is no need to for a deep dive into economic systems. That’s for further study or post K-12 learning. Kids should be taught how to manage money, balance a checkbook, use credit wisely and things that will actually help them in Their day to day lives.

Sure, all economic systems can be touched on in like a social studies class or something like that. But ultimately, there is no benefit to going overboard on such a topic, IMO. Most of the class time should be spent on the system we use. Sort of like we teach English first and foremost because that’s what we speak here. If one wishes to pursue other languages or enter a career in translating then by all means, do what ya gotta do but that’s outside the scope of basic K-12 learning.

Wouldn’t the students be better served to learn about how our economic system works

Hate to break it to you, fascist - but if kids in the US were to be taught how the US's economy actually works, they'd all be really angry communists and socialists before the month is out. That is, unless you think kids are as lethally delusional as you are.

Be careful what you ask for.

[–] TheMage@lemmy.ml -4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Are you OK? Whats wrong? You need to get some help for yourself. Things are clearly not going right for you. Please Google what fascist means and stop using it incorrectly. Bounce back when you get your life sorted out. Delusional? Yeah - Get educated or learn a valuable skill + get decent paying job and live well = be happy. You got a better idea?

[–] masquenox@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I've always wondered... do they tailor your Klan robes, or are they just one-size fits all?

[–] PostmodernPythia@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Methinks the person who hasn’t read Ur Fascism here is probably you.

[–] masquenox@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ohhhh... my apologies. Let me rephrase that.

Found a brain dead fascist!

[–] TheMage@lemmy.ml -4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Youre the one mis-using your left wing buzz word all wrong. Keep at it though, this is funny stuff. :). Im a happy capitalist. Must drive you lazy communists crazy.

[–] masquenox@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

In other words... a brain dead fascist.

[–] PostmodernPythia@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

No one’s using an IWW-created curriculum, so I don’t know what “left-wing loonies” you’re talking about. You’re is comparing center-left “don’t be mean to brown people because they’re people” to PragerU’s fascist content. Do right wing nutjobs just not know how far out they are for “both sides” comparison?

[–] jzzvid@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 year ago

Blocked. We're not here to debate our right to exist. Your agenda is genocide and it's right to inoculate children against your fascist brainworms. Go buttchug Mr. Ed's Miracle Paste in someone else's comments.

[–] stempo@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I found the "Mom for Liberty"

[–] TheMage@lemmy.ml -3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah - I certainly support them over creepy 46 year old men wearing dresses but you do you. :)

[–] wildbus8979@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I guess we should ban all depictions of Socrates then! Or Jesus for that matter. What about Franklin Delano Roosevelt as a young kid?

[–] TheMage@lemmy.ml -4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Jesus is already banned in public schools, LOL. Can’t do Christmas anymore. Honestly, ALL religion should be kept out of public schools so I guess I agree with you here. Socrates? Not sure how to respond to that. FDR would be part of a standard US history curriculum I’d think.

[–] wildbus8979@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

FDR would be part of a standard US history curriculum I’d think.

But you said we should keep boys in dresses out if school. So FDR is out too.

[–] TheMage@lemmy.ml -4 points 1 year ago

Huh? What does FDR have to do with what I said? Do you think some of the stuff being shown to very young children is appropriate? Do you think parents should NOT know about this stuff? Do you have kids?

[–] wildbus8979@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Drag Reads are not part of the curriculum, they are optional extra curricular activities. Try again.

[–] TheMage@lemmy.ml -3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

They have zero place in any public school whatsoever under any circumstances. Whats next? Foot fetish day in 2nd grade? The point is that trying to shove this useless crap into schools at all is just a horrible idea. Try again.

[–] PostmodernPythia@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Putting on femininity isn’t inherently sexual, unless you think femininity is inherently sexual. (It’s not. Women are full human beings.) I put on dresses every day near kids without it being weird. Can’t imagine how having a penis would change that.

[–] wildbus8979@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Why are you equating them with something sexual in nature? How is empathy and acceptance of difference useless? Try again.

[–] MeetInPotatoes@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think you're onto something, that to conservatives certain people even existing is political.

[–] PostmodernPythia@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

That’s why when they say they hate “politics” and want it out of schools, people get scared: “Shit, am I ‘politics’ on this week’s Fox News Bingo Card?”

[–] keeb420@kbin.social 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

whatever happened to a parents choice over what their kid is taught? oh right they were being hypocritical once again.

[–] sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

DeSantis also signed a huge voucher expansion, so parents can choose to take their kids somewhere else if they don't like what's taught at their local school. Here's more info about school choice in Florida.

I don't live there, so I can't give any practical experience with it, but I do send my kid to a tax-funded charter school because our local school sucked at the time (has since improved, probably because so many in my area opted out of the local school and they changed the leadership).

If I lived in Florida, I would strongly consider moving my kids to a different school if I disagreed with the curriculum. But I'd need to inspect the curriculum first.
