Summary

Pope Francis skipped the Vatican’s official meeting with J.D. Vance Saturday, instead having his No. 2 give the vice president a lecture on compassion, according to a Vatican statement.

The statement said there was “an exchange of opinions on the international situation… with particular attention to migrants, refugees, and prisoners.”

Pope Francis has repeatedly rebuked the president’s mass deportation effort, calling it a “disgrace” and a “grave sin.”

The Pope corrected a Catholic concept Vance had invoked to defend the administration’s deportations, ordo amoris (order of love). In a February letter, Francis pointedly explained, “Christian love is not a concentric expansion of interests that little by little extend to other persons and groups.”

Seriously, when will the Vatican just kick all the republicans out of their little cult? You want to build a better reputation, you start by distancing yourself from monsters.

[–] finalarbiter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 day ago

If they kicked out republicans and pedophiles, there wouldn't be anyone left to give them money

Imagine being so shit that you’re lectured on morality by a guy who shields pedophiles?

[–] doomcanoe@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You need to be an ordained catholic priest to get the pope's ''pedopass''. As such, the man with the silly hat is quite irate that Trump is out there diddling kids without the proper credentials.

The church should write a song about how they don’t diddle kids

The Vatican had nothing to gain by having the Pope meet with Vance. Trump wanted the meeting so he could lie about what happened at it.

Trump: "Daaaaaaahhh, so the Pope came up to Mr Vance (with tears in his eyes) and said, "please Mr Vance, could we make Donald Trump a Saint? We're begging you. We're down on our knees, here. We're totally begging you."

Well luckily Vance is a republican, and they have stated more than once that compasion is bad. Elon said empathy makes you weak, and when a Bishop asked Trump to have some, and we were informed thats a sin

So guess its all good.

Their source has a more neutral tone, in case there is someone questioning the truth behind this article: https://apnews.com/article/vatican-vance-pope-migration-a91d0f741cb994faae1e363d38b66c05

Although I believe their neutrality got them banned from white house press events, so maybe they wouldn't consider ap neutral anyway

Hunt for Red October. Sean Connery as a Russian sub commander!

To be fair, this is most likely because the pope is not well at all. It wasn't even clear if he would be able to give the traditional easter blessing himself, which is significantly higher in the Vatican's priority list than a meeting with the US second in line of succession.

Well, he had met King Charles and Camilla earlier that week, so he is giving audiences - at least to people he respects.

[–] huppakee@lemm.ee 5 points 2 days ago

Vatican confirmed it in the souce

Why is his face contracted like the top of an onion? He doesn't look like he wants to be there, or take the whole religion thing seriously. Lol.
