All about dogs - dog breeds, dog training and behavior, news affecting dog owners or handlers, puppy pics, etc.

Rules (Will be refined later on).

  1. Don't be a dick. This should cover most things, just keep in mind that everyone started somewhere and try to be helpful rather than rude or judgmental.

  2. No personal attacks based on training style or tools.
Discussion of balanced training including proper use of aversives is allowed here.

  3. All breeds and mixes are welcome. You can criticize backyard breeding practices but don't pile on people because they own a specific breed or prefer purebreds or mixed breeds.

  4. Do not support backyard breeders or puppy mills. Please do not link to or suggest buying from high volume breeders or those with an obvious lack of standards and testing.

  5. Do not help or support fake service animals. Please do not encourage people to buy fake service dog vest or ESA letters to get around rental or other restrictions & do not give advice on how to misrepresent a dog as a service or support animal.

It’s entirely different! And entirely better!

At least, until they start doing the dreaming-leg-kick-into-your-balls thing. Then it introduces entirely new anxieties.

Watch that head. It'll whip to the left and (at best) give you a gnarly headache

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

I see you've met my dog.

People also make good blankets

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

They do, actually. It's all about the weight.

My doodle always waves his hands in a dog paddling motion when we lay like this.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Well, that's just adorable.

[–] bionicjoey@lemmy.ca 4 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Yeah it's his signature move. He's part Bichon and apparently it's a thing

[–] PopShark@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Omg my family’s Bichon definitely loves standing on his back legs and trying to hold onto people with his front but I never noticed a wave motion! Time to experiment…

Aww, such a sweetheart, thank you for sharing!

Ever heard of a three dog night? Hell yeah they make good blankets.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

No, I haven't, but I'll check them out.

[–] Thcdenton@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Lol not the band. Its another way to say a freezing night. One so cold you bring all three dogs into bed to stay warm.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Lol, you totally had me confused cause I found a quilting company called Three Dog Night and was like “well, that must be it” 🤣

my wife has to be in the center because both me and our golden gets to hot

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

My husband has to sleep with a fan by him because we have our dachshund between us, and she is a furnace. She loves the heat, but he can't sleep unless it's cool. I'm just on my side trying not to fall off.

[–] HubertManne@kbin.social 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

as much as I heat up easily the golden does more than me. I will snuggle her on the couch and she is the first to heat up to much and having to go lie on the kitchen tile.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It's all the hair! When I had a pit bull, she was so "naked" with her short fur and no undercoat, she was constantly cold.

[–] HubertManne@kbin.social 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

yeah that doublecoat is insane. One thing that drove my wife and I nuts is in extreme cold our old goldens response was wanting to hunker down. It was like, just use the bathroom! the house is heated! If the golden is comfortable we are freezing our buts off.

I wish we could talk to dogs and explain simple things like that. "Hey, dummy, do this and not that!"

I have a sheepadoodle. She'll lay like this juuuust long enough for me to relax before suddenly deciding it's playtime, spazzing out, headbutting me, and then kicking me in the balls as she launches off the bed to find her annoying pig toy that oinks.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Picturing this made me chuckle. She sounds like an adorable handful!
