Hey, I'm moving to Zürich, Switerland soon and am looking at internet options for myself and my homelab. The 25g symmetric connection for CHF 64.75 per month looks absolutely amazing (this has got to be the best internet deal on earth, business or consumer!) – https://www.init7.net/en/internet/fiber7/ – I was wondering if anyone has experience with them.

I use their 10Gbe service and can't recommend them enough.

You may run into challenges finding hardware that can do routing at line speed with 25Gbe though.

I've been a loyal Fiber7 subscriber for years (1Gbe service before the 10Gbe and 25Gbe options became available)

Unfortunately I can't use their product, but if I could I would in a heartbeat.

I've read so many good things from other people, they are very open and active on their website (https://blog.init7.net/de/) and in the networking community.

Of course 25G is an insane Speed for a residential (!) connection but having is better than needing :)

Also if you buy a 25G you will have to deal with a more advanced router, which has a 25G interface, I belive on their website they recommend Mikrotik which is nowhere near as easy to setup as Your Fritzbox or Netgear Router.

Let us know how it goess

Been with them for years, altough 1G is more than enough for my own needs. They are a fantastic, technically oriented provider. They participate in open peering, are active in the network communities etc. Highly recommended

How TF are y'all getting 25Gbps when we can barely get 1Gbps symetrical in the UK

[–] No-Command9510@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Been with them as well , awesome service!

[–] thehedgefrog@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I pay barely less than that for 900/50 asymetric cable. Oh, and that is the absolute fastest upload and download my house will get for at least a decade, probably more.

Fuck I fucking hate isp and cell provider shit in Canada. 25 gig for less than 1 gig would cost.

What the actual hell.

Insane speed and price. Didn’t even know what speed was possible 😂 sounds like Switzerland is light years ahead of the UK

Us Americans in shock of a citizen getting 25g in another country for the same cost of some 1g or lower plans….

meanwhile, me in Australia: $75 a month for 100/40...

What router are you going with? I built my own and run pfSense 10gb SFP+

[–] allyg79@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Jeez, I'm a bit jealous of that compared to my 1g/1g service in the UK at £260 per month! I hate to think how much a commercial router/firewall fast enough to handle those kind of speeds would be. As others have suggested, building your own and running something like pfsense or vyos is the way to go. Best of luck, you're getting a fantastic deal there!

Might as well if it is available.

Think it's going to be expensive to kit of the home in a way that can actually make use of it.

...and then find a server serving anything that fast.

Paying 50 for 250mb in Germany. Jealous

[–] gdegondas@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Don’t want to be negative, but good luck finding a place inside the 25g coverage area by init7. 25g is still uncommon, while 10g and 1g are widely available in urban areas. You can check wingo (they use swisscom PON network) and checkout also Yallo (working under sunrise). They have lots of promotions, most for mobile subscriptions but also for fixed networks too

Here I am having just gotten gigabit fiber and y'all are talking about 25GbE?? I'm extremely jealous.

not so far from zurich in the south side of mediterranean we are getting 20mbps as top speed in algeria

[–] WildestPotato@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

And here I am paying ≈ 97 CHF for 1000/50… Woo, Australia!

[–] flololan@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I don't want to be "that guy" but have you looked into your needs? Will you ever go beyond 10G? Because Salt has a very good offer where you have 10G symmetrical for 40Chf/month (if you also have mobile. 50 if you don't). We have had that for years without issues.

[–] chandleya@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’ve been on 1000/1000 for about 7 years. Still don’t see any need at all for more. I work with various cloud providers and for single thread workloads like large file transfers, you’re still not likely to encounter pipe saturation. Then there’s WiFi.

My SP offers 5Gb for $199 USD and various rates in between. No point.

I would kill to get these speeds here in Germany...

I'm currently paying 45€ for 1000/50 cable

I would glad pay to get a bit more upload rather than download, but it's literally impossible.

I'm currently hoping that my streets gets considered for fiber in the next few years...

1Gbe symmetrical in Hong Kong runs me US$13.76 a month and included a welcome gift which I sold for around $50
