Maybe it’s a weird question but now I have two spare pc’s and I’m planning use one of them as a proxmox machine to have some of my raspberry machines running on the same computer. So the machines are a i7-4790K with 32GB RAM and the other one is a i5-8279U with 16GB. Storage or ram are not an issue, I can use the same storage on both machines. I’ll use it with about 5 VM and light workloads but I don’t know which one to use for this.

Depends on what VMs really. But I personally would go with the i5. You get the same top end processing power, lower power usage.
