everyone defending oatmeal is like, "oh once i add 17 things to it, it tastes so good!"
I eat it plain most of the time, but with brown sugar and/or strawberries is a good combo too.
I think it's fine alone
80g rolled oats
190g high quality H2O
--microwave 90 seconds--
63g unsweetened applesauce (refrigerated)
28g shelled, crushed walnuts
16g PBFit
25g Muscle Pharm chocolate protein
1 diced Granny Smith apple
Every morning.
Do you seriously meticulously measure those 63g, 28g, 16g etc. every day, or is it a joke? Now, don't get me wrong; I don't judge you if you do. I just couldn't see myself measuring a lot of stuff in such a precise manner first thing in the morning. I'd just go ~60g, ~30g, ~15g and then don't care if it's a few grams off. Or, actually, I'd probably just do "one tablespoon of this, a handful of that" etc.
Edit: "high quality H2O" got me laughing. I guess I'll have to stop using the swamp water for my breakfast...
Honestly there’s a Townsend 18th century about “water gruel” I.e. oatmeal and they have a variety of unheard recipes. If y’all don’t like oatmeal, maybe some Onion Gruel would be your speed? 18th Century Working Man’s Meal
Treat it like rice and add the same things. Works out really well with less cooking time and healthier.
Add a bit of barley, some yeast, water and wait. After a week add heat and distill. Add oak chips and age it a few weeks outside. Add water to taste.
Two things for me- honey and raisins. I'm good with that.
My kid doesn't like raisins in his oatmeal and I am starting to worry about him. Those little treasures are one of the best parts of the oatmeal experience.
I'm eating a bowl of tasty paste right now. Magical.
Oatmeal is a base, like soup broth. It's a vehicle for added flavor and texture to other stuff.
My recipes, adjust the amount to taste.

Who "defends" oatmeal? And since when does it require more than one or perhaps two additives?
More for me I guess 🤷🏻♂️
