former Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aimé said the decision not to localize it was "based on the business needs and the business situation at the time" when he was asked about it last year.

Saved you a click n read. That's the only "info" in the article.

I mean, I get it.

But throwing that 2D Zelda remake-ish 3D graphics on it and sell it for $70 would be great, considering the fan base this game has all over the world.

Sorry, but your comment hit me like a brick !

70$?? For a 17 years old game from a dead platform that might as well be abondonware and that has aged graphically like fine wine thanks to being 2D ? Why ? I would understand if the fan made translation was a subpar job and having the official translation would dramatically change the story but we both know the fan made translation had the same care put into it as religious texts and aside from very minor name changes the official translation wouldn't be any better.

And then people would complain when they get fucked backwards by these greedier and greedier companies. How about giving that 70$ to a family member or charity or anything else really other than increasing the wealth of some Japanese shareholders ( the devs ain't gonna get a cent from this money ), downloading the game and playing it using the carefully made fan translation.

That would make lots of dough, absolutely

I've seen a few Japanese creators (not just games but anime, manga, film, etc) talk about how they don't bring stuff over here because they simply think nobody will get it. I would just like to say to these creators: We have a whole bunch of people here who love Japan. Enough that you could literally market anything here simply on the virtue of being Japanese and it will sell.

Considering Aimes is the one who turned down localization here, I kinda wonder if that "Loud American" thing I've heard about is partly where the above mentioned creators get this idea that the cultural differences are too much to market here. 🤔

Wtf? This company can make games from scratch but they can't pick up a book and translate it?

Something tells me the potential reception of the magypsies is a factor. Now is a time of both great love and hate for things related to challenging binary gender

And they would have only been more contreversial back when Mother 3 was originally made
