  • Razor: Ralf Aust 5/8 Stainless Full Hollow Spanish Point
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Vespers - Soap

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

A quick and efficient shave today because my time is limited, but the luxury travel kit (shown in the photo) delivered a great shave.

Is that travel strop 3" wide? It looks great! Is the leather supple enough to roll the it up?

[–] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

3" x ~15". It is steerhide and not too supple, but the draw is terrific. I measured my smallest carryon bag and found a place where the strop can be placed flat. Tony made the strop to order so I can always pack it flat. He provided a plastic sleeve to protect it. As you can see, he did a terrific job.

A true luxury travel strop, very nice!

Dec 8, 2023 - Fougère Friday

  • Brush: Zenith MOAR BOAR Sub-Exclusive 31mm (508A XL)
  • Razor: Mühle Rocca R94
  • Blade: Gillette 7 O’Clock Super Stainless (Green) [11]
  • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Varen - Soap
  • Post Shave: Mäurer & Wirtz - Sir Irisch Moos - Aftershave

Happy #fougerefriday! I saw Varen and SIM being used a lot earlier this week for Moosday Tuesday, and it inspired today's shave.

Rating: 4.5/5

Varen and SIM are a great combo, a bit of a Beethoven's Fifth with Varen's Da da da dummmm followed by SIM playing the happy cute violin motif 🎻

Yeah, I get that 🎶

  • Prep: hot shower
  • Brush: Yaqi 24mm Naples Tuxedo Knot (synthetic)
  • Razor: Gillette Slim Adjustable H3 (1962, 3rd quarter)
  • Blade: Gillette Super Blue (2)
  • Lather: Wholly Raw - Monaco Royale - Premium Shaving Soap
  • Post Shave: Wholly Raw - Monaco Royale - Artisan Aftershave Balm

I really love Monaco Royale. It's sweet but only lightly sweet. It mostly feels to me like a dark scent, yet there are also some bright overtones. In short, it's a perfect, any day of the week, any time of year scent for me. Great soap base too.

Slim Adjustable++

Another razor I should use from time to time!

[–] spj_hook@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I like to change the setting for each pass.

I haven't done this in a long time. You go aggressive to milf, or mild to aggressive?

Fougère Friday

  • Brush: Dogclaration LG 2022 Mystery Brush (B16)
  • Razor: Böker S.S. Paris Wins
  • Lather: Spearhead Shaving Company Seaforth! Heather
  • Aftershave: Spearhead Shaving Company Seaforth! Heather
  • Fragrance: Spearhead Shaving Company Seaforth! Heather

Keeping it simple with a Heather Trickhole. I've always liked the 20.1 base (my first two Austere Augusts were with it) and this shave reminded me of it. It's just so easy to dial in. I'm looking forward to one more shave with this base tomorrow with Fleur de France.

Heather is on my list to try. I have yet to be disappointed in any Spearhead products. The soaps all lather so well it’s effortless.

Same here. Dennis and Shawn have an amazing streak going.

Dec. 8, 2023

  • Brush: Yaqi 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Karve Overlander
  • Blade: UK Tech Statum
  • Lather: Spearhead - Fleur De France - Soap
  • Post Shave: Spearhead - Fleur De France - Aftershave

Great shave. This scent is so good and still the family favourite. Shave could be a bit closer I have 9 shaves on this blade and it should’ve been 8.

[–] spj_hook@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago

I also used a Yaqi synthetic today. Not at all surprising, I use one of my two Yaqi synthetics most days.

Fleur de France++;

December 8, 2023: Wow Such Unfancy

  • Preshave: Proraso Green Preshave
  • Brush: Zenith 506U XS Horse 🐎
  • Razor: Merkur 34C
  • Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (37)
  • Lather: Cella Aloe Vera
  • Post Shave: Mennen Skin Bracer
  • Post Shave: Nivea After Shave Balm

After my attempts with Ishtar, I remain in Italy, but on the other end of the price scale. Also, the trusted Merkur 34. Finally, do I need expensive razors - not really. Maybe not as close as with a GEM, but still very good.

Have a good evening!

Exactly! I'll take those pesky Parker and Koraat razors off your hands 🤝

  • Brush: AP Shave Co. - 24mm Synbad Fan
  • Razor: Chiseled Face - Legacy Raw Titanium (#69)
  • Blade: Gillette Stainless (1)
  • Lather: Chiseled Face - Ghost Town Barber - Soap
  • Post Shave: Chatillon Lux - Delor de Treget - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Mood Indigo - Balm
  • Fragrance: House of Mammoth - Damocles - EdP

The best part about using GEM razors and PTFE blades, for me at least, is going back to DE razors :-)

This shave was just so much easier, closer, more comfortable, and fun. Of course GEM still has some appeal and it's sort of fun to do sometimes, but still.

The blade I used today is a random one that I grabbed from my "collection". I don't know which flavor of Gillette it is, because the wrapper is unmarked and the blade only says "Gillette Stainless". I really like the blade, whatever it is.

Lol, this triggered me, like I'm on "team GEM"😅, then I thought that if you switched the razor types, I'd also bristle 🤷‍♂️

I have to give my safety razors a bit of love again
