Yes but it depends on the game. Steam will often tell you in the steam deck compatibility area of a particular game, that the game may not close gracefully and that you might have to crash it. It can also happen with non-steam like games installed via Lutris or something from the Epic games library.
There have been a few occasions when I've had to use the power button to reboot in order to recover from a crash.
