Coordinates in Java as in Bedrock (feedback.minecraft.net)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by PrivateLemur@lemmy.one to c/minecraft@lemmy.world

A question for Java edition players: Would you like to see an option to display your coordinates on your screen easily without dealing with the messy F3 UI? Meaning, a native toggle in vanilla Minecraft, no mods involved.

Why don't we have that?

For reference, that's how it looks on bedrock (right side)

EDIT: Clarifying that my question is about unmodded Minecraft.

Why don't we have that?

Because mojang does the bare minimum to keep Java edition players quiet and would much rather just kill Java entirely in favor of Bedrock (so it can be monetized with microtransactions). Allowing that would be a quality of life improvement and we aren't allowed to have those.

Considering that most of the parity changes that have been done to bedrock have been removing features to be more aligned with java, I'd say the devs hold java in a higher regard than you think.

Yes and no. The truth is that most of the community responsible for keeping Minecraft relevant are on Java. If they kill Java, they also kill Fabric, Spigot, Paper, all the modpacks and such.

Java is the marketing department, Bedrock is the sales department. Mojang needs to keep Java just functional enough for the community to do the marketing for them.

There are plenty of mods that will add this for you.

I meant in vanilla Minecraft.

You can use a data pack to see your own players coordinates on screen

Part of vanilla tweaks

https://vanillatweaks.net/picker/datapacks/

Search for: Coordinates HUD

Only note its in the spot announcements like being unable to sleep appears, so sometimes those notices are harder to see when enabled. (Just a note its very rare I disable it)

You can. There's a Datapack called ,, Batty's Coordinates ", that displays the coordinates above your hotbar.
