A shocker in Seattle: Pete Carroll is expected to be out as the Seahawks head coach, per sources. He still could remain in the organization, but not as the head coach.

Wasn't expecting that one

fuck. don't know how to feel, as I love what he's done for the team, but also feel like the team has become somewhat limited and stagnated the last few years. I love that man, but I'm also excited for the future.

Curious what this means for the Schneider side of the equation. Drafting has been okay, but other than offloading Wilson the trades have been pretty awful.

And the fact that they have barely any cap space going into next year…

[–] Fleamo@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Ok that surprises me. They have a QB on a reasonable contract too.

Yet the bears are keeping Eberflus?

[–] Banzai51@midwest.social 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The Bears seem determined to be what the Lions used to be.

I can’t wait to experience that 0-16 season!

I can't believe Jody Allen finally did it. I didn't think she would rock the boat, but I'm glad she did. Phase two is getting a serious hire. Let's go Jim Harbaugh!

Pete Carroll is the only reason the Seahawks were relevant this past decade.

I don't dislike Pete Carroll, but his time passed quite a while ago. I'm confident that Paul would have moved off of him 5 years ago if he hadn't passed away.

Pete, as a defensive coach who created one of the greatest NFL defenses to ever grace the gridiron, has consistently produced below average to actually bad defenses since 2018.

The last few years we got flat out coached offensively and defensively by McVay and Shanahan. If you can't see that then whatever, but this was the right move at the right time.

No hate on Pete whatsoever, but nobody stays relevant forever. This team has too much young talent, and it needs a hungrier coaching staff to take advantage of that.

He's also lost some of the best defensive coaches over the last little while. If you look at the tree of defensive coaches from Carroll it's pretty astounding.

I was never a fan of Clint Hurt, Sean Desai hasn't impressed in Philly, and Ken Norton Jr. wasn't very good either. The two really stand out Seahawks DC's were Dan Quinn and Kris Richard, and Dan Quinn may still end up back in Seattle.

[–] Donjuanme@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Below average is underselling some of those atrocities!

[–] Donjuanme@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Harbs v shanahan two or three times a year... That would be something.

At least Seattle already budgets for khakis.

[–] Banzai51@midwest.social 3 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Bringing in Harbaugh to replace Carroll would be funny given how they don't like each other.

[–] Che_Donkey@lemmy.ml 1 points 10 months ago

This gives me an ironic erection especially if we start beating up the 49rs again...

[–] Riccosuave@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It is just one thought. I really wonder if he is going to consider heading back to the NFL after that ass whooping Michigan gave UW. What is another candidate you would like to see?

[–] Banzai51@midwest.social 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Well, I want Harbaugh to stay at Michigan. I don't know if that is possible at this point, but I don't really care who Seattle hires. If Seattle is keeping Carroll on in the front office, it might be a reason Harbaugh passes on the job.

[–] Riccosuave@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Very valid point & consideration. I'm certainly interested to see what happens next.

[–] Che_Donkey@lemmy.ml 3 points 10 months ago

I will absolutely leave this planet if they hire Riverboat Ron...

[–] sarcasticsunrise@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Bucs fan here: I don't care that we made it to the Dance, I'd take either Vrabel or Pete over Todd Bowles like NOW

[–] Fleamo@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Interestingly not actually that intriguing of a spot. Mid 1st, no 2nd, bad oline, nothing exciting at QB, no cap space.
