American pharmaceutical ads are weird. I guess I’m just not free enough to understand them?

[–] Mr_Blott@feddit.uk 14 points 10 months ago

Having seen recent statistics -

*too free

Ftfy

Canada is a bit on the weird side too. For us companies can either advertise what their drug does, or advertise their name, but not both.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 months ago

What? How does that work? Have I just never noticed because we get so many American ads?

[–] IndiBrony@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

This is the best one. Larry the Cable Guy!

Here is an alternative Piped link(s): https://piped.video/l9Jblh5ssrw?si=GUZnOHOUXxHHpaG5

Piped is a privacy-respecting open-source alternative frontend to YouTube.

I'm open-source, check me out at GitHub.

Any android apps for piped?

You can just use NewPipe.net
I don't think there's a difference privacy wise, as piped likely doesn't proxy the video data itself.

I mean, here (in Germany) we have ads for meds too, but only for freely available stuff that you can reasonably self-medicate. Like ibuprofen and stuff

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 24 points 10 months ago (2 children)

You mean the ads with the old people who, suddenly, are able to cycle again?

[–] Moc@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago

Gendered multi vitamin ads every time

[–] ichmagrum@feddit.de 6 points 10 months ago (2 children)

And the ads with old people who can go on balloon trips again without shitting their pants!

*watching sport stream from American tv channel *

Hmm, this psoriasis drug seems quite effective! Maybe I should ask my doctor about it!

Warnings at the end of the ad: "do not take if you have, have had, or ever will have the sniffles, as the deaths of yourself and everyone you've ever loved will result"

Nah, I think I'll pass..

[–] pimento64@sopuli.xyz 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Real one:

"If you have mild to moderate rheumatoid arthritis, VIOXX may be able to treat your pain. Ask your doctor about VIOXX, he has all the facts about whether it's right for you."

"Okay so yes, 140,000 people got severe heart disease and a bunch of them died of heart attacks, but in our defense, the only reason we deliberately mislead your doctor about the safety of VIOXX was so we could make a shitload of money".

Gottem lmao

The rest of the world: Advertise drugs to doctors
America: Advertise drugs to people

[–] Sludgeyy@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago

Oh they definitely advertise to doctors as well

[–] Spendrill@lemm.ee 8 points 10 months ago

...Aaaand then put them in prison for obtaining any similar molecule.

TV: "Ask your doctor about DRUG today!"

Me: "Shouldn't my doctor be the one telling me about DRUG? Cuz, like... He actually thinks I need it?"

Of course even that is not necessarily the best... If the doctor gets a kickback for pushing a certain drug, they're no better.

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

This somehow looks and feels like Dilbert

[–] rubythulhu@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 10 months ago

The commercial told me to tell my doctor this medication was right for me
