I left Reddit because of the API changes

I left Lemmy because it’s full of terrible memes and content

[–] hemmes@lemmy.one 13 points 1 year ago

{gestures at OP’s comment}

I'm not looking to be the same. I'm not looking to be anything. Just discovering (and so far) enjoying the alternative I wish I knew about a long time ago. Thanks for the warm welcome! /s

Off topic: These links arent opening on the iOS app Memmy. Any hack around this?

[–] 001100010010@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

I don't think so. You can add your instance's webpage to your homescreen and it's essentially an app. The web version works flawlessly, I've never even used an app for Lemmy.

[–] Jonsk@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

I think that might be a bug, the !community@instance.com template is pretty standard and even works on the web version. i reccomend updating the app, checking the github repository and checking the settings. But for me it works on the jerboa app. also you should probably try turning off your wifi connection on your phone and retrying, if that wasnt obvious enough. if those dont work try any chatrooms/communities memmy might have, they get resolved pretty quickly in my experience.

Yeah. Here on Liftoff(Lemmy app) these community links redirect me to a protonmail message, lol

[–] theyoyomaster@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Your user activity is far more public here.

[–] kurwa@lemmy.world 26 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Piracy not privacy. I thought the same thing too honestly

[–] theyoyomaster@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Yup, that is it.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I left because the culture, trolling, and astroturfing got to be too much and the exodus meant Lemmy would have enough userbase to fit my usecase.

¿Por qué no los dos?

[–] radau@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 year ago

Wish there was a suitable replacement for crackwatch

[–] tttrrriiisss@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago

That's terrible. Where are these piracy groups so I can stay away? Which ones in particular?

[–] stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Heave-ho, thieves and beggars

[–] capt_wolf@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Never shall we die!

[–] Selmafudd@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I like to say I left in protest but honestly I got perama banned, it's been coming for a while because I was still act like Reddit was old Reddit.

But ima just keep telling people it was in protest

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Pirates, thinking they’re on the moral high ground. Lol

[–] spauldo@lemmy.ml 18 points 1 year ago (17 children)

The nice thing about pirates is that they keep the cost of media down. The streaming services we have today wouldn't exist if not for all the rampant piracy of the 90s and 2000s.

Enjoy buying things tied to an online account which the platform can arbitrary ban at anytime with no legal recourse. When corporations fuck with paying customers, that's what they get. Why would anyone want to pay for something when the experience for paying is worse than if you just pirated? (rhetorical question, please don't answer)

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That’s quite an anecdotal pile of verbal nonsense there bud. I’m guessing you’re bitter about a very specific company’s ways of releasing their product?

Hers some helpful advice: If you don’t like who makes it- don’t buy it. It works wonders for me.

Do you understand that piracy has caused a majority of the problems we face with digital media nowadays, the least being rising costs. (Rhetorical question, please don’t answer)

People who make games =/= People who sell games.

Look at Disco Elysium

[–] HurlingDurling@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

I left because Fuck the corpos! And fuck investors!

Look at that door, dude. See that door there? The one marked "Pirate"?

[–] reddwarf@feddit.nl 1 points 1 year ago

Well, nobody ever said Pirates cannot be horrible cunts, so there we have it, le proof :-)

[–] Jase@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He says, posting it to a meme channel based on Malaysian Lemmy instance.

Sorry dude, but you don't seem to care about privacy that much.

[–] Holzkohlen@feddit.de 9 points 1 year ago

Says piracy.
