Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Prediction: dark money interests will force the government to declare AI infallible/100% color-blind so that the companies that use it can’t be sued for discrimination.

I’ve said it before but we really should lock everything and, importantly, everyone involved with ai in giant lead box and drop it in the Marianas trench

just the people, we can repurpose the computing power for Gosplan 2

Not until capitalism stops existing, it’s better this way trust me lol. Communists can reinvent it in the future

haha I guess I was assuming some intermediary steps if we're at the point where we can sink Sam Altman

[–] viva_la_juche@hexbear.net 11 points 7 months ago

Yea that’s a good point. soviet-hmm

Ok I’m convinced let’s do it your way

That's gonna be a lot of wet Astrophysicists. Also anyone with a cellphone, really.

[–] viva_la_juche@hexbear.net 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Obviously meant like in it’s development and application not people dabbling in it to make memes or whatever

Well for cellphones I was more thinking photography, audio EQ, voice commands, search, navigation, etc. Any problem that isn't easily formalized and handled by traditional coding.

Yeah I guess where I’m coming from is I, as a cell phone holder, didn’t proliferate that technology. My issue is with people creating and making it available

Why can’t AI ever mess up in cool ways? Its never canceled a random person’s student loans or done a drone strike on a billionaire ghoul’s mega yacht.

If an AI makes a mistake that hurts capital, the mistake gets rectified.

reminded me of this short story I read back in the early 2000s -- https://marshallbrain.com/manna

I remember thinking that “This Machine Kills” podcast was too niche and too in the nitty gritty of the machines of misery when I first started listening to them. But no, mainstream media is picking up this nightmare industry. A.I. used to scale is 666% ghoul shit.

I hate that tech could be used to make so much life easier and better but capital demands it not be used for the betterment of our condition.

I could invent a magic box that cost nothing to manufacture, used zero energy to operate, and converted toxic waste into delicious cupcakes and the capitalists would charge a monthly fee, put a tracking app on it, require a wifi connection, and release a new one every year while bogging down older models with bloatware.

Hell is empty and they are the demons walking among us.

[–] Bloobish@hexbear.net 15 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Honestly my hope is the AI become in charge of the stock market and accidentally send it into a death spiral because of some type of weird infinite paperclip machine bug

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 8 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Have you heard of Renaissance Technologies? they bought Trump and Clinton in 2016.

[–] Bloobish@hexbear.net 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Are they still having humans input the commands after review though? I'm waiting for full on AI automation of stock portfolios and how badly they could react to some type of systemic factor in the market no one planned for (i.e. another crisis of capital).

I'm pretty sure that has already happened. IIRC there was at least one time when trading was halted due to the HFT algorithms going berzerk and costing billions in losses in some sort of spiraling war.
