Four common habits that "destroy our memory as we age"

  • Multitasking: It strains the prefrontal cortex, crucial for focus and memory formation. Instead, focus on single tasks with breaks for relaxation.
  • Poor sleep: Sleep allows the brain to consolidate memories and remove waste. Prioritize good sleep hygiene by avoiding screens and stimulants before bed.
  • Monotonous activities: Memories are tied to context. Varied experiences provide richer contexts, strengthening memories. Break routine and try new things.
  • Overconfidence in memory: We often overestimate our ability to remember. Embrace the likelihood of forgetting and use active recall techniques like spaced repetition to solidify memories.

By avoiding these habits and adopting healthier practices, the article suggests we can improve memory and potentially prevent "senior moments."

Thanks there's literally nothing I can do about this while living in a capitalist hell scape.

This level of nihilism is laughable. Of course you can. You can blame whomever you want but the only way out is if you take personal accountability for getting out of that shithole you live in.

Making a positive change is always EXTRA effort. Not less.

Aw, you sound exactly like the angry "personal responsibility" youngin's from td reddit.

C'mon son, have a seat and have a chat with your old dad for a minute.

It's okay bud, everybody goes through changes throughout different stages of their life and it's important that you know that some people were born a little different than others. Some people have cultural, biological, or social background differences that aren't like what you and I know, and that's okay. Even if you don't understand what another person may be going through, or how little their brains make of certain chemicals, what I want you to remember is: all that is important is that you treat people with kindness and empathy. Because everyone deserves a little grace, especially when you can see they're struggling. Okay, champ?

Now go on and play that Nightfortblox game you like you little rascal.

So you've got time to write a condescending comment but you're also too busy to not multitask and can't get to bed on time? Because capitalism?

Riiiiight...

Oh yeah, how is that kindness and empathy working out for you. Some craze about "the_donald" based on a few sentences I said to you?

Maybe if you have issues dont try to LARP as a dad talking about you being different or troubled from a second perspective or use far blown phrases like "its the fault of capitalism".

If you got anything to say about what the actual problem or excuse is, say it.

I don't have faith in my memory. I have even less now knowing I constantly multitask monotonous activities and get little sleep.
