🀦 The ignorance and whataboutisms are strong with this one..

[–] hydroxide@lemmy.ml 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

How so? Would you also call Malcolm X and MLK ignorant?

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 0 points 8 months ago (3 children)

I am calling the presenter of this video, and the person who posted it, absolutely ignorant. Why you've decided to try and deflect the obviousness of that is beyond...oh. I see...................WEEEELLLLP.

Bout time for me to hit the old dusty trail....

Is it? I asked you 'how so'. Can you provide me a concrete example of a 'whataboutism', what is he ignorant about? The reason I asked that is because the quotes he uses encapsulate what the video is about. Quoted from MLK and Malcolm X.

[–] Anyolduser@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 8 months ago

Wait, if it's so obvious why can't you explain it?

Also, how are they deflecting if they're asking you how they are ignorant?

[–] OtakuAltair@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

Explain then? This is a well-made and researched video as far as I can see.

This video is another critique of democrats vs republicans and how democrats offer a lot of lip service for being inclusive, fair, liberal, etc but have very lackluster results and end up being a lighter version of their republican counterparts instead of pushing liberal agendas that they ran on.

"The white liberal differs from the white conservative only in one way: the liberal is more deceitful than the conservative." - Malcolm X

IDK if quoting Malcolm X makes your quote automatically correct. For example

spoiler

'[Jews] know that they control 90 percent of the businesses in black communities, from the Atlantic to the Pacific. And they benefit more from black buying power than blacks do from other parts of the white community. So they feel guilty about it. … Jews can be found on the boards of such organizations as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, but, the same Jews won’t let you become president of B’nai B’rith, or any of their other organizations.' - Malcolm X

I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to 'order' than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice.

MLK Jr.

That pesky "almost".

The issue isn’t with liberalism as a concept, it is with liberal politicians. The liberal ideology has it right most of the time, but the politicians will cater to conservative voters and donors.

Now, this video implied that conservatives are honest about their views, and this is a massive load of bullshit.

When I see liberals critiquing liberals, if they are not prefacing their views with a strong call to vote liberal then I get suspicious. I get it you want a better candidate, Biden is not as left as you want, yes yes, but I hate to break it to you, if you diss Biden too much you're handing the reins to the right. Go crazy in the primaries, go crazy in the local elections, get your young leftist candidates out there great, but when it's time to vote in the big one you have to get your ass out there and vote.

Any liberal that doesn't explain this, I get suspicious and wonder who's really supporting them. I'm sure this youtube guy isn't in some conspiracy, but man I would not be surprised if unknown to him some russian agency was donating generously to his patreon and fanning the flames with fake comments to create dissent within the party.

The system is shit, do everything you can to change it, but if you sit out the big vote you're being played like a flute.

That's because JT Chapman is a rich white guy who reviews luxury cars and hides behind MLK quotes. Why make the world better for people who aren't him?

Despite allegedly caring about class issues too, I wonder how JT feels about Biden's latest speech, which was strongly pro union
