It's like how scammers will use obvious tells to weed out harder marks, meaning anyone that responds to them will be easy pickings.

Having worked as a relay operator when I was younger and seeing these scams happen in real time while being powerless to do anything but facilitate the call, the truth is often way, way sadder. It's often not stupidity, but desperation that causes them to fall for extremely obvious bullshit.
