Please don’t use Discord for FOSS projects

Please don't use Discord at all...Tencent you know...

[–] MysticDaedra@fedia.io 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Tencent only owns 20% of Discord's shares, hardly a controlling amount. If you really don't want to give a dime to Tencent (and I certainly don't), you'll pretty much have to stop using the internet or playing video games.

That's a little bit overreacted, isn't it. This is a list and it's not that hard to avoid this games or companies if you don't want to support Tencent. And some of these companies are also best avoided for their own reasons.

okay, shouldn't be that hard to DuckDuckGo a more updated list if you want :) Also nobody is forced to do this, it's just good to know what you are supporting with your money.

The more updated list is ridiculously lengthy and not very obvious. An example is Riot Games not in that list.

As if I needed any more reasons not to touch League of Legends.

then combine those two lists?

[–] Deconceptualist@lemm.ee 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

But that's the first one on the list...

Oof, my bad, somehow skipped past that and only registered epic games, but yeah, it's still missing other studios

As much as I enjoy and grew up on Nintendo IPs, I'm completely done supporting them in any way. They've done so many archaic and unreasonable things to creators over the past decade that it would be amazing if their online presence just vanished altogether. This stuff against modders and emulation makers has been a new low in my eyes.

Wholeheartedly agree.

Even if Yuzu did an oopsie and pushed a patch for leaked Zelda before official release, targeting the vaguely related reverse engineering projects is a completely unwarranted overreaction.

Not to mention the rampant legal threats to video creators for literal nothingburgers 🤦‍♂️

They won't be getting a single cent or recommendation from me 🏴‍☠️

They should probably use element or something

[–] RmDebArc_5@sh.itjust.works 18 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Something indexable by search engines (like lemmy) would be better for finding existing support requests

[–] xnx@slrpnk.net 3 points 7 months ago

Yeah it’s mind numbing that Lemmy uses matrix for Lemmy support instead of Lemmy

[–] lemann@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 7 months ago

First time hearing about Sudachi!

I wish there was a viabale sefhosted E2EE discord alternative and no, Matrix is not it.
