It's just survivorship bias: the buildings still standing thousands of years after everyone who wanted them died are the ones with just a fuckton of extra pillars holding them up.

The columns in ancient Greek architecture were very much integral to the structure of the buildings. It wasn’t until the Romans adopted cement and arches that building methods evolved to the point where columns weren’t needed - although the Romans still included them for decoration
