Yeah, works in liftoff and jerboa but not the PWA in Firefox on Android. Different clients each have their own rendering engines that might behave differently.

So what is the difference between all the lemmy servers like lemmy.world and lemm.ee vs kbin
It's a different threadiverse system that still uses ActivityPub to publish posts/comments. Go look at kbin.social to see how it looks. You can mostly access the same communities from Lemmy and kbin because they both use ActivityPub in similar ways.
Here's what I see:
In liftoff it displays correctly. Transparent bg and animated.
In webui, if I click the image, it's animated but with a white background. If I don't click the image it's just a static single frame.
