I mean, stupidity and group think are just parts of having conversations in large groups as happens on these internet forums. I have not been impressed with the quality of intellect on Lemmy. But at least its not like Reddit where every mildly interesting subreddit has a minimum Karma count of like 30, and at least I'm not getting permabanned left and right over completely benign BS like saying I think Christianity is a net positive. I can say what I want here, and people can downvote it and I might even get mobbed... but at least I'm not being micromanaged.

Reddit sucks. They're the reason I came to Lemmy. They're absolute trash.

You cannot say "advocacy" and "non-violent" methods don't work and then say "I'm not advocating for violence". It's a cop out, and you know it. Pick a lane.

If Luigi wanted to enact change, he could have engaged in advocacy by leveraging his family's significant wealth and influence (which, he has instead excluded himself from inheriting MILLIONS because of his criminal acts). He could have joined an advocacy group, or gone to law school and taken up practice suing over claims doing pro-bono cases. He's a smart man, with resources that could have been grown and used to help the people he claimed to commit murder on the behalf of. At the very least, he could have tried to corner Brian Thompson and speak with him to get him to change his policies. He didn't. Instead, he shot the dude in the back in cold blood, despite having literally no personal stake in the game. Brian got what was coming to him, but Luigi was not justified and he should not be representing the interests of the people. He's a poser. Nothing more. And he gets what he deserves.

CEOs and healthcare officials will tighten security for a few months, judges will be hard on anyone who gives off even a whiff of copycat, and then some other outrage will come along and people will forget and nothing will change. Insurance practices will stay the same. At most, people will make this a second amendment issue, the government will pass some legislation about 3D printed guns, and our lives will all continue to get progressively worse.

I know after surgeries I've been elated at the seeming reduction in pain, and all I do is rave about how great it is, but then it always comes back and I'm depressed and I just stop talking about it. wouldn't shock me if that was his case.
