As far as I understand it (though it may be incorrect) - they won't be synchronized. Content between instances is synced/cached only when the instances are federated, and it doesn't go backwards - only posts after federation will be visible.
The error may be related to Android version. I've gotten a new phone today, and it seems image downloading works fine there. Previous version was Android 9, now I'm on Android 13.
I have experienced same issue, didn't found a fix so far. Also, it seems like there is no issue opened about that on GitHub.
Questions 12 and 20 seem to have incorrect answers. The correct answer is "no", but the comment says they were created by DALLE-3
