Are you me? I felt the exact same way. Then if it hurts, you have to hide those feelings too because people will make fun of you for being "too sensitive." "It's just the internet, get over it." Rejection sensitivity is real and it sucks. I quit commenting on Reddit because of that. I never understood why people think the internet isn't a real place, so it's okay to be cruel. We may be somewhat anonymous here, but we're still people with feelings. If you're mentally in a bad place, little things can really feel big. They add up.

I recently got on meds for my ADHD, too. It's helping me a lot, I hope you're having good luck with yours too. :)

Also if anyone reads a comment from me and I sound like an asshole, please let me know! It's almost certainly not intended, especially anywhere on Beehaw.

This kind of energy is why I like it here on Lemmy, and especially Beehaw. Being nice should be the default. On Reddit, I got downvoted so many times just for asking a question in good faith. Then if getting downvoted bothers you, you get mocked further. "It's just the internet, grow up" kind of stuff. Downvoting may not be a big deal to some people, but some don't understand that it can have an effect on your mental health to feel rejected so much. You don't know what other people are going through, having a heavily downvoted comment could even be a last straw for someone. Getting constantly insulted and downvoted can feel like the whole world is against you if you're in a bad place. And a lot of people are in a bad place, especially since 2020. A lot of people are lonely and only have the internet to talk to, and if the internet rejects you too? It hurts. It's not that hard to be nice, especially to people who mean well. I hope Lemmy stays like this as much as possible.

I would also like to be notified if I sound like an asshole about anything. It sounds dorky, but spreading even small moments of positivity really does have an effect on our world. We can see the damage that rage bait has done to people. Little things add up and they do have an effect on all of us. Let's try to spread kindness as much as possible.

The bootlicking on that post (in a PIRACY sub nonetheless) is wild. Lots of "you don't understand, Reddit is a COMPANY! 😭" I've peeked in on Reddit a bit and I've been seeing those kinds of "won't somebody think of the shaaaareholdersss and adminss" comments on a few posts related to the protest. Things like this insightful little nugget:

"Seems all the reddit hate is based solely on reddit doing something similar to twitter, and I'm supposed to be upset cause "Elon man bad"? Tons of APIs cost money to use... build your own platform that freely allows everyone to scrape all "your" content, lead by example please..."

I wonder how many of those are Reddit employees and bots? They can't all be u/spez alts, can they?

Oh and this is fun too, did you know that we're all LiTeRaLlY extremists over here?

" Lemmy is very far-left. They are literally extremists, I'll not be part of that shit."

Guess Reddit is going to be taken over by alt-right trolls too.

Edit: Still figuring out how the formatting works over here.

That sounds really hopeful. Where and when did the events covered in the book take place? Also, what was the name of the book?

I figured out yesterday that if you go to the Google cached version, you can still see old posts. If I try it on mobile, the cached option isn't there, but on my PC I can click the (...) next to the search result, and click the cached option. Trying to figure out how to do that with mobile.

I fully support the blackout and I am trying to keep my Reddit traffic to a minimum, but I was trying to figure out a technical problem yesterday and it was a huge pain to find anything useful. Way too much SEO crap to wade through.

And the puns. My god the puns.

I just wanted more info about what's going on in a video, and now I have to wade through hundreds of low effort puns. And most of them the exact same dumb joke repeated over and over.

Oof, I can see why some of those instances are blocked, though. Since I'm on Beehaw, I checked their block list and...wow. Scrolled through each one for a few minutes and now I'm hoping I'm not on some kind FBI list for it. A few highlights from my research expedition:

  • A meme featuring various characters (MLP, Vaporeon, Peter Griffin, etc) unironically mourning Ted Kaczynski
  • NSFL gore
  • People calling for the execution of cops who stopped rioters on Jan 6
  • SO. MUCH. LOLICON.
  • "Hahaha look at this WOKE LIB 🤣🤣🤣"
  • QANON. QANON EVERYWHERE.

I was only on each one for a minute or so. I don't think I'm missing out on anything except maybe being put on some kind of list.

I got Jerboa from the Play store so it's there now. Overall it's not bad, I like the UI but there seem to be a few bugs to work out. For example, I've noticed that if there are images in comments, the scroll starts stuttering, the screen flickers, and it's difficult to scroll past the image. Not a deal breaker but hopefully Lemmy will get popular enough to attract more devs. I think Jerboa is a good start though, I hope to see it improve.
