Not true. VFTs prefer nutrient poor soil. In fact, the main reason owners of these plants fail to keep them alive is not watering them with pure enough water. You’re supposed to use water with a TDS below 100ppm. Rain water or RO water preferred.

The reason these plants can survive in such low nutrient soils is because they evolved a different mechanism for obtaining nutrients.

Imagine the government paying you to not eat meat… the dream!

Damn. Good work gathering those links.

Also: fuck off, mcdonalds.

I think the fact that there are ~40% of bills that both rich and middle class Americans oppose is pretty solid proof that congress doesn’t give a shit about what American citizens want them to pass… or am i misinterpreting this?

That used to be true. It is not the case any more. I believe that is why they now add natural beef flavoring to their fries.

Quick correction: McD’s fries are vegan everywhere except the US. They use some sort of milk and “natural beef flavoring” in the breading here for some dumb ass reason. In Europe they’re vegan though.

Yeah, we’re talking past each other.

I understand how to do it, I just don’t think it makes sense that it’s necessary to do it that way.

Zero should equal “max taxes withheld” and the fact that it’s more complicated than that makes it feel intentionally complex (which I’m aware it is)

[–] Nimrod@lemm.ee 1 points 3 months ago (2 children)

But isn’t that the whole point?? If I put zeros on my w4, why the fuck do I have to use another tool to calculate what I’ll be taxed, then add an additional withholding to make sure I don’t end up with a tax bill in April?

It’s insane.

I make a version of this all the time. A few tips that I’ve found help to really make this work well:

Ratio of VWG to tofu. The ingredients list always say 1 block. But if you can’t get the exact one they recommend (the super firm) your ratio is going to be off. I use regular extra firm blocks, and I press the water out of them. My final measurements are 370g tofu:120g vital wheat gluten.

Internal temp. Seitan is just really dense bread. And when you cook bread, the recipes always include a temp. You want crispy French bread: 200f. You want a moist sandwich loaf: 180f. The same logic applies to seitan. I always try to get mine to finish at 190f. Too low, and the texture is weirdly gummy. And if you let it go above 200 it forms bubbles and becomes more like a sponge (you’ll see the outside edges get this way anyway.)

Compress it. Yes, wrapping it tight is key to not letting it expand, but it will naturally inflate. What I do is rest a cast iron on top of it after it comes out of the oven. Let it come down to room temp under pressure. Then rest it in the fridge overnight.

Those are the big ones. Good luck!

Explosive birds?? I’m in.

[–] Nimrod@lemm.ee 1 points 4 months ago

Oh for sure. But they’ve pretty much dictated the development of my yard since.

1600gal pond with massive up flow filtration. 10x8 custom coop with pond integrated to previously mentioned pond Home automation routines to protect and secure the flock and make it easy for friends to care for them while I travel.

But if it rains heavily, ducks will find mud. And they will DRILL! Leaving a massive muddy pit. Luckily I love those dumb birds, and don’t mind the mud.

Yeah, I actually got ducks for eggs soon after I purchased my house. But after getting the little dudes (in the mail) and watching them grow into full sized birds— I was reading and learning as much as I possibly could about how to best care for them. But this sort of research leads you down the path of agriculture literature. And the more I learned, the more it disgusted me. So my birds are full-time pets. I don’t eat their eggs, and I’ve tried to cook them and feed them back to the hens, but they don’t eat them. So now I just give the eggs away to my friends/family so they don’t have to purchase eggs. My logic is that doing this reduces the overall demand for factory farmed eggs.

(I have 4 hens and one drake. They are the most spoiled ducks to walk this earth.)
