Do you remember how long ago the last few open registration periods were? I'll try to keep my eyes open but it will help to know when to check more frequently. I use NZBGeek currently but OzNZB seems to be gone and I always prefer to have at least 2 for redundancy.

So you're saying that they're all concentrated in one relatively compact area then? Hmm...

That sounds like a reasonable compromise. I'm glad that they got it passed. Now get to enforcing the law that prevents those senators who shut down the legislature from running for office next election...

Well now I 100% know who NOT to go to! Thanks for the heads-up!

If the fediverse represents the soon-to-be-replaced web 2.0 of the past, what do you see replacing it and why do you think that will be incompatible with the fediverse apps?

I could see some block chain security/authentication features added to federated apps, and hopefully end-to-end encrypted DMs will be enabled by that same technology too. I'm just having a hard time imagining something "new" that will replace this completely.

There will probably be several TikTok-like entertainment platforms, likely filled with ad-friendly AI generated content that is 100% under corporate control and costs almost nothing to produce, but that type of platform attracts a different audience than what we have here.

It's hilarious that this assumes old.reddit.com will survive more than a year or two after IPO.

RIF just started returning error 429 as well. I sadly uninstalled it and then launched Jerboa instead.

I can't help but notice how similar their phrasing is to Spez trying to justify why Reddit has yanked the rug out from under their third party app developers.

Firefox already has the Lemmy Link extension to do this. It seems to work pretty well from what I've seen.

How are you going to exchange cash for crypto in one hour?

If he'd announced that they were going to force the app developers to share ad revenue or charge users a reasonable monthly fee for ad-free access and share that with Reddit, I think the backlash would have been far less.

But that's not what Steve wants. He wants to get all the ad revenue AND be able to track user activity to sell to the data brokers/advertisers. This was never going to be a situation that we users found reasonable.

Can we get that Aberdeen Angus Cottage Pie in the states please?

Twitter plans to focus on video, creator and commerce partnerships to revitalize the social media company's business beyond digital advertising, according to an investor presentation by owner Elon Musk and new Chief Executive Linda Yaccarino that was reviewed by Reuters.

Yaccarino, who started as CEO on June 5, told Twitter investors on Thursday that the company is in early conversations with political and entertainment figures, payments services and news and media publishers, said a source familiar with the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss a private investor call.
