I think the claim that the world is anti-intellectual is somewhat biased. I don't know if that's a sampling bias, a cognitive bias, or some other kind of bias. But one way or another, I feel like you're overblowing things.

Wikipedia lists influencer as a synonym for internet celebrity, so I guess just when they become famous.

Unless you take the title literally, then it's whenever they become influential over a statistically significant portion of the population.

Aluminum soda cans have plastic linings, because the acids can dissolve the aluminum. What that means for your drinking bottle, I don't know.

This is why pirates were wearing eye patches, to be able to enter the hull of the ship and see immediately without lighting up a candle. Fire is not a good idea inside a wooden ship filled with black powder.

This is one theory for why pirates wore eyepatches. We haven't found any historical evidence to confirm it. Meanwhile, we have at least a few documented cases of pirates wearing eyepatches for protecting a damaged eye.

If I were writing the Star Wars movies with the benefit of hindsight, I would allude to the fact that Vader seems much more aggressive when dealing with Leia compared to other Rebels, like something about her Force aura is triggering to him.

This is not true. There are a litany of laws that capturing a wild duck from a public park would be a violation of, so don't do it.

I pirate content that is not in print within my region. Fan subs of Japanese TV shows, emulated games for discontinued consoles, things like that.

As an American who has gotten very used to metric units in studying engineering, the general rule I picked up is that you typically only change units every three orders of magnitude. So 8 decameters would typically be expressed as 80 meters, maybe 0.08 kilometers. Decameters and hectometers are a thing, but they're not common units. Even centimeters don't see much use compared to millimeters.

Yes, in fact such a machine already exists. It's called an air conditioner. An air conditioner is just a heat pump that pumps heat out of a building.

Yeah, dude is asking the wrong question.

What rock have you been living under? I could not escape this movie when the discourse was at its peak. I can absolutely believe it was one of the most talked about movies.

Yeah, if you want a single system for heating and cooling, you'd be better off getting a heat pump. It's the most energy efficient thing for both anyway, from what I've been told.

I consistently hear people on YouTube complain that the subscribe button doesn't do anything for viewers, now that channel notifications are controlled by the bell. But it does do something: it puts the videos from that channel in your subscription feed, which is readily accessible on all versions of YouTube. So why do people act like it doesn't exist? I think it's super convenient, especially if you're subscribed to a ton of channels and don't want your notifications feed flooded with new videos.

I set up an account on Lemm.ee, and tried to turn on 2FA. But at some point, it turned back off. I tried turning it back on, but it seems to want a new token now, and I can't log into my account anymore.

Just in general, the account settings on Lemm.ee seem to be bugged out. I couldn't even change my language or add a pfp. I can still use Lemmy just fine with this Lemmy.world account, but I would still like to know what my options are for recovering my Lemm.ee account.
