For mainstream distros it's pretty easy

  1. Download an ISO
  2. Install Rufus or another media writer
  3. Write the ISO to a flash drive
  4. Boot the flash drive
  5. Click install
  6. Follow the prompts until it's installed

Pearson is stupid, but for homework you can get around it by changing your user agent. For proctoring you have to actually boot into windows though
