Is the process of making something illegal. It also refers to the social control and consequences that come from, being involved in criminalized activity or being part of a community that is targeted by criminal laws.

Criminalization's effects extends far beyond being arrested/prison. Eviction, inability of access social services, lack of support

source my textbook not that anyone is seeing this

Can use reasonable force to remove from house. Can somehow detain them, didn't go into more details. You can use "reasonable force" to defend self. Ex in home def, if you're a big man, you can't best up a small teen who broke into your house. you're suppose to generally run away. Can use reasonable force to remove from home, didn't specify what that is

Vid 2 For summary (minor) offenses, police have to prosecute aggressor by 1 yr 1 day. For indictment (major) and dual procedure (medium) offenses, no time frame to prosecute

Vid 3 Bad character evidence (being known to popo as a drug dealer even without being ever arrested, having a criminal record) can make a witness an unreliable witness. Same with a police who was written up too many times.

  • you're not allowed to lie technically to the ride program cop, but most ppl do. If you say you're drinking or coming from a bar they will breathalyze you.
  • Popo only suppose to ask if you had something to drink and where coming from
  • can roadside test any driver basically

Don't generally have to show ID or identify yourself to police,

  • But have to during regulated activities like crossing boarder, restricted movie, driver's license when driving, restricted movies, show ID to purchase/consume alcohol

If police find you commiting an offense, have to ID self or will charge you with obstruction. Ex jay walking, bicycle violation, trespassing. If charged with "obstruct police" but they were simply gonna give you a ticket, now they won't give you just a ticket

If arrested, have to identify self, also police won't release you until they figure out who you are. To secure release, tell them name, dob, address

Don't lie to police, better to remain silent. Lying to police can be nailed with "obstruct police"

  • a police believe that if you're calling the police to report a crime, 90% chance it's a self report
  • if the police ask you to come to the police station, you're a suspect. In some countries you don't have to go to bring yourself to the station. if they lack evidence they won't come arrest you
  • no obligation to be polite to police in exerting rights
  • it's a crime to lie to police
  • it's safe to talk to police during a routine traffic stop
  • don't volunteer anymore info to police then is strictly necessary

Now all bargaining units of PSAC have reached a tentative deal, to be detailed and voted on by members.

From psacunion.ca, one notable difference I noticed between this and the other agreements was an increased flexibility in working hours, allowing members to request beginning their work day as early as 6 am.
