In CTR's case I believe they weren't even strictly gated behind microtransactions, being also "earnable" but still requiring you to interact with an online component. Though I think the game also had a Battle Pass system which means some of the content was probably vaulted because that FOMO has to be leveraged.

Making a game less horny for any reason automatically makes you worse than Hitler in their eyes.
Was that game even any good? I remember liking the original when I played it as a kid.
Also, I assume you could just cheat those in as well if it came out on PC or Switch
One of my friends bought the PC port of Gears 1 just to unlock one of the Chrome starter weapon skins to complete the set. Can't remember where the other ones came from. And yes, Gears 3 was insanely fun. I somehow had some ludicrous TDM K/D ratio, like 4 or something. Ahh, so much hatemail and accusations of having a modded controller
While I didn't use them a lot myself, beginner-friendly alternate loadout guns like the Sawed-Off and Retro Lancer gave some of my friends who don't usually gel with Gears' multiplayer a confidence boost that kept them playing Gears 3 so I appreciated them for that reason
They should include "Gears of War" in the list of Spanish-speaking countries on Wikipedia, it's amazing how popular the franchise is in South America. More than half the people I see in multiplayer are from there
I'm not sure what's wrong with my brain but I've always just liked Gears multiplayer more than any other multiplayer I've played and keep returning to it. I wish Gears 5 was more like Gears 3 though, I loved the maps and weapons in that game. 5's loadout system is mostly completely vestigial since they took out the three starting rifles and the sawed-off shotgun. I rarely used them but I liked the choice being there. Maybe that Gears collection will happen one day and it'll have an updated Gears 3 MP

Also the sawed-off was just a really fun gun
It did get pretty decent reviews overall when it came out, and it has a good amount of different modes to try.
Most people liked the single player campaign even if I thought its dialogue suffered from Marvelitis too much. It's also co-oppable with 3 people, though the third player is stuck playing as a support drone.
There's also a DLC campaign that was pretty fun and also had proper 3-person co-op.
Then you have two different PvE modes. There's the new Escape mode, which is a fun enough way to level your character class cards where you try to rush through labyrinthine levels within a time limit, and the original horde mode, Horde mode where you hunker down in Gears 5's multiplayer maps against 50 waves of enemies with character classes and minor base building elements.
You also have Gears multiplayer which is a bit of an acquired taste. Hope you like shotguns, abusing the cover animation system in a weird way and insults in Spanish.
Gears 5 also had a really annoying battlepass system when it lauched but they've made most skins earnable with ingame currency and made said currency easier to get
If Xbox games are terrible, then how am I still playing Gears ~~of War~~ 5 after 4 years?
Jokes aside, Halo and Gears of War simply aren't what they used to be in the 2000s and 2010s. Halo feels like it has been cut up and reassembled like three times since Bungie already, and while Gears of War still manages feels like Gears of War, turns out that's just not enough for most people outside of a small diehard fanbase.

I'll still keep drinking that garbage
I was about to recommend the Fatal Frame games if you're looking for classic survival horror recommendations but on second thought they don't really fit your parameters about descending into madness. They're more about exploring haunted Japanese manors and villages with the protagonists themselves being mostly blank and static.
If you decide to check the series out, I would recommend you grab iso files of the first three PS2 games and play them on your nightly build of PCSX2. While 4 and 5 have been made available on all modern platforms, I don't think either of them really showcases the series at its best. 5 is just a huge mess all around and while 4 is more in line with the PS2 trilogy, it's still frustratingly railroady and trivially easy.
Well, I have the battery in the phone right now and I'm attempting to charge it since it didn't seem to have any juice left and it's acting a bit weird.
First, the phone's charging LED blinks, then the screen shows the battery charging screen for a split second, then the first frame of the boot sequence pops up briefly, then it goes back to black and the charging LED flashes briefly again, rinse and repeat.
I assume it's not looking good for the battery. I'll give it a moment and see if it holds a charge
Thanks! I'll give it a go, hopefully there's still life in it
I was about to say that it's not that bulky actually, but looking them up apparently the backbone part retracts completely on the Kishi v1. I assume there were probably issues with the cable in there breaking since that seems to be a problem with all of these collapsible controllers.
When I bought the BSP-D8 I also got a cheap Nintendo Switch case/bag for 3 bucks that just about fits the phone and controller. The old phone I use as an emulator handheld is pretty old, with a 5 inch display. If I used anything bigger I'd have to take the phone out of the controller and keep them separate in the case. Maybe there are other sorts of knockoff cases on AliExpress
I mean, with a long enough USB cable it's definitely usable on PC that way. In fact, when I used the BSP-D8 on PC I just used a cable since I didn't want to bother with Windows' bluetooth pairing process.
