That was way better than anyone was expecting I think. That was a great use of a film license.

It feels like marketing departments are treating us like idiots. They show the best bits so we can run along and see how they connect with the rest of the film we haven't seen, probably the talkie bits as they've already shown all the action.

...then I'd turn down the offer to buy one. 😆 Although, I've seen one of the real batpods.

Yeah. The opening minute had me hooked. Once they started showing that he was going on a mission, I turned off. Stop giving me an abridged version of the film!

[–] UKFilmNerd@feddit.uk 6 points 5 days ago

I agree. Back in the day, they made great teasers with footage that was especially shot for that purpose. I wrote a blog post about that kind of thing back in 2015.

These days I find myself turning off any kind of trailer after the first minute as they seem hell bent on laying out the entire film for you.

The Jinx film almost happened. There was a script, a director in Stephen Frears but apparently MGM got cold feet spending $80m on the film.

Berry said,

“It was very disappointing. It was ahead of its time. Nobody was ready to sink that kind of money into a Black female action star. They just weren’t sure of its value. That’s where we were then.”

It's when articles say it's "only" got 77% in reviews and act like that's a terrible thing. Surely 50% would be a truly average film.

I'm surprised he managed to get hold of so many video game licences. All the films were awful.

Marshall wrote on Instagram, “Since so many fans keep asking, I figured I couldn’t keep the disappointing news to myself any longer. Your unwavering loyalty deserves better. For the past 6 years myself and original UK producer of Dog Soldiers, Christopher Figg, have been working tirelessly to negotiate for the rights to make a sequel with the US Producer/rights holder David E. Allen and his company Dash. 6 years!! That’s as long as it took to write and make the first movie. Unfortunately these negotiations came to a sudden and unexpected halt when, earlier this year, we were due to finalize and sign the agreements and….they disappeared. Vanished. Cut off all communication. Refuse to answer emails or calls. Why, you ask. I don’t know why. That’s the point. We simply don’t know what happened or why, but the end result is that we don’t have the rights to make a sequel without this deal in place, thus rendering it effectively dead. I’m sorry. We tried. We really did. And in Chris Figg’s case spent a lot of money on legal fees doing so. We wanted this for you. For all the countless fans who’ve asked for it. But in the end, perhaps it’s just not meant to be. The original film was lightning in a bottle, and perhaps lightning doesn’t, and in some cases shouldn’t, strike twice. So there it is…“

Nineteen hours later, he revealed that he hopes to make a separate project called The Werewolves of London. “Since I dropped such a clanger last night, I thought I’d give fans a little moonlight at the end of the tunnel today… While I do not have the rights to make a Dog Soldiers sequel, there’s nothing to stop me making another werewolf movie…. Which is exactly what I intend to do. It’s early days and I’m not giving away any plot details just yet, the plan is to bring as many of the original team back for this as possible, and then all we need is the money to make it!“

I've done a quick search and it turns out that was for an entirely different film they announced several years ago. That hasn't started filming or anything yet.

I bought Brian O'Halloran's (Dante from Clerks trilogy) film called Vulgar as one of the extras on the DVD is the documentary "Judge Not ... In the Defense of Dogma". That was really interesting and it's easily found on YouTube.

There's also this bit of footage about Dogma which I think is quite funny as well! 😁

Lucas is known to be pack rat, he keeps everything. Did you know there's a version of Star Wars that doesn't use bluescreen for the travelling shots.

They tried using rear protection, think 70s TV shows when two people were travelling in a car and chatting, for Luke talking while driving his land speeder and possibly the shots in the falcon cockpit.

He's got all this stuff and more. Every time there's a new Star Wars documentary from Lucasfilm, it's amazing seeing new behind the scenes footage even after all this time.

There's deleted scenes from Indiana Jones films that have never seen the light of day for example.

There's a very dedicated team of fans who have bought, or been lent, cinema reels of the original Star Wars trilogy.

It's taken them years to scan it in, frame by frame and to correct the colour and repair the picture.

They're considered the gold standard. Search for 4K77, 4K80 and 4K83.

I remember interviews with Lucas and I think Rick MacCallum that said the original Star Wars negative was used to create the Special Editions.

The Library of Congress definitely has a print of Star Wars that was submitted in 1978. I think they also have Empire and Jedi but I'm not sure if they are the original editions.

Over the years, the original Star Wars films have been subject to many changes and additions. According to Lucas, the original cuts have been lost to time. Well, sorry George. We the fans cannot let that happen. This is the story of how the fans saved Star Wars.

This is Part I in a new series I'm creating documenting the fan preservation of the Theatrical Cuts of Star Wars. This episode focuses on Laserdisc Bootlegs.

This bought back some memories. I remember downloading the TR47 bootlegs which were really good copies for the time.

We now have a series of rooms via Matrix to have a good old natter about the films we love and hate.

What's the Matrix? ~~Well, Neo~~ An open network for secure, decentralised communication, so were keeping in theme with the Fediverse.

Matrix is a secure open source chat system. I wondered if anyone was interested in setting up a chat room for people in this community to get real time chatting.

Just an idea.

The new story is not meant to be a continuation of the Skywalker Saga, the name of the overall arc of the popular and pop culture-dominating Star Wars movies known as Episodes 1 through 9. The intent here is to have brand new characters and a new story, and not have it be a continuation, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. (Although that does not mean that some characters could not or would not pop up.)

Kinberg already has strong Star Wars ties. He co-created the animated series Star Wars: Rebels with Dave Filoni as well as Carrie Beck. The Emmy-nominated ran for four seasons, from 2014-2018.

He also helped out on the relaunch of Star Wars after Disney bought Lucasfilm, acting as a consultant on 2015’s The Force Awakens.

Kinberg is an established presence in the genre space. He had a hand in the Fox X-Men movies, being one of the producers of Logan and the first two Deadpool movies, among many other creative duties. And he is about to go into production on Edgar Wright’s take on Stephen King tale The Running Man for Paramount.

How long before this project is cancelled, or we never hear of it again! 😆

The article finishes with a reminder:

Lucasfilm has tried to chart paths forward before. Kennedy previously signed filmmaker Rian Johnson (Knives Out) to develop a trilogy as well as Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. None of those came close to fruition, with the company facing occasional scrutiny over the years.

The feature piece, which goes into the finances of Riot Games, has revealed the company spent approximately $250 million to produce and promote Arcane’s two seasons which totaled 18 episodes.

That works out to a cost of around $13.9 million per episode – the highest amount of money ever spent on an animated series on streaming or linear TV.

The trade says the reason was that the “profligate spending and unrealized ambitions are a reflection of the company’s inexperience navigating the intricacies of entertainment production.”

In total the first season cost over $80 million to produce and $60 million to promote. The second season came in around $100 million and entered production without scripts for every episode, causing major delays.
