I’ve been meaning to read this essay for a bit! I read a chunk of China Has Billionaires yesterday on my break. I like how clear Roderic Day’s writing is, so I’ll definitely have to make time for that next.

Great comment! You’re absolutely right, they aren’t brainwashed. I made my comment mostly out of disgust for the shameless appeals to morality you frequently get from those who vote Democrat, but looking back I feel calling them brainwashed implicitly absolves them of the deliberate choice they make to align themselves with imperialist interests in pursuit of personal gain.
It’s really disturbing that anyone could be so brainwashed as to believe the Democrats are meaningfully different from Republicans when they are constantly vowing to kill as many people and ruin as many lives as possible. You really expect me to side with you to stop Trump when you are criticizing him for not being ruthless enough and promising an even more cruel border policy?
For DS Games Rhythm Heaven is really fun, it's basically a collection of rhythm mini-games. Another good one is Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer, from the same series as Pokemon Mystery Dungeon but with less focus on the story and more traditional roguelike mechanics. For 3DS, someone already said it but Shin Megami Tensei IV is a fantastic RPG.
I want to try out the Gender Removal Mod for Tomodachi Life, but it works by replacing "Male" and "Female" with "A" and "B", and I can't decide on how to sort Miis into either A or B. Any suggestions?
This may be an even spicier take than the OP but I think most of the time “quality of life” changes are unnecessary and can undermine deliberate game design choices. Adding accessibility features (actual accessibility, as in features that allow disabled people to enjoy games they otherwise would not be able to play, not accessibility in the way Consumers use it) are obviously good changes, but otherwise I don’t think added features in remakes often make for a better experience. Most games that get remade are games that were beloved in their day, and it’s not like those games got worse or anything, people just have different standards that lead them to expect a game from 20-30 years ago to play the same as one that came out today. And tbh, if I wanted to play games that feel like modern games, I would just play modern games…
this is what I’m talking about. to be clear, none of the lemmygrad team has made an explicit statement as administrators as far as i know, i just noticed that it’s not really being talked about at all there and that there hasn’t been any action against nutomic in the modlog despite the fact that ordinarily someone saying something like in the linked screenshot would get them banned instantly. i don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes so i don’t want to seem like i’m witch hunting or anything, it’s just something i noticed and don’t have a lot of patience for, personally.

this nutomic shit is getting me depressed. it’s really frustrating seeing liberals on other instances act smug claiming it’s a standard marxist position to be transphobic when that’s just blatantly not true! tons of us are shitting on this guy and calling for him to be banned. how are these people gonna sit around and wag their fingers at us while their instances are filled to the fuckin brim with transphobia? i know this is basically just what liberals always do, but on a smaller scale, but fuck is it annoying. i want to go argue with these people but i can’t get my thoughts together because i get too upset while typing.
it’d be a lot easier to deal with if it actually looked like anything was going to be done about this asshole but aside from the hexbear ban it kinda doesn’t seem like anything is gonna happen. there’s no talk i’ve seen on lemmygrad of banning him, and i have zero expectations that he’ll even have to step down as a lemmy.ml admin, much less be banned. i’d be surprised if he even gave an apology. day 104859204 of being disappointed with my supposed allies
I just finished The Murders in the Rue Morgue, and now I'm reading The Mystery of Marie Rogêt. I don't know if you can call stories about crime "politically agnostic", but they're short and not theory at least. I've been getting more in to mystery fiction lately, I've always liked mysteries in other mediums but never really branched out towards them in books before.
By the way, does anyone here use BookWyrm?
I only played the beginning of the switch version but it felt good to me. I haven't played the original in like a decade though
