Many people are not informed for how this stuff works. They see an open world racing game they can play with friends and don't understand what's needed to make that happen.

Get a copy of it now. There may not be more development on it, but you'll be able to keep playing the games that work already on it
Why do you need to rebuy it from steam? They don't have a Linux version?
What else, other than these stickers and such, are points good for? If I have enough points, should I just buy this?
