Based on experience south of border or in AB - all the dissent goes out the window and everybody falls in line come election time. I'd like to believe that any of the major Canadian parties has members genuinely caring for their constituencies but given our electoral system and governing system that is out the window as hyper-partisanship is a natural step in current system's evolution. Parties prevent democracy by forcing their members to follow party line and not their electorate needs.

Facts:

  • POTUS45 knew it was a one-time grift so there are no repercussions for him for abandoning his electorate.
  • POTUS45 repeatedly stated his desire to help Israel and not even once hinted at idea of peace for Gaza.
  • Haris clearly was trying to evade direct answers to Gaza questions which left significant room for after-election change
  • Democrats suck (at messaging, at fighting back and at playing hard ball)
  • Putting up ultimatums in the middle of election is doomed to failure. I can't recall one instance where it was successful. I can recall however when existing administration, outside of election cycle, yielded to public pressure...

so with just more obvious facts on the table the entire notion of giving Dems middle finger and literally helping Republicans win was not merely misguided but malicious. Being surprised by the outcome does not speak highly of people involved and their priority. If their priority was stopping the bloodshed they would've acted differently, by all means that priority was mainly middle finger to Dems.

I am acutely aware that people are dying and between two administrations the difference is at what scale and whether public has any sway with administration. Present choice out of the gate pointed for larger scale suffering and no public input.

US elections are not pragmatic - they are spectacle of emotions, which is why public elects showman.

(para)quoting History of the world part 1: ...f@ck samsung?

But seriously? Working people into their graves? For what? For "MORE" that nobody needs or wants, just to fill landfills with more yesteryear devices? Ugh. Capitalism was fun for a while but now it really became very self-centered : profit for the sake of profit whereas we need to move humanity forward, end poverty ( because technically we can ) and start looking at each other with respect and be able to live our lives with dignity.

Biden could've used Trump's own tool - presidential impunity and either fired judges or plain locked up Trump or worse, first: forcing republicans repeal the law, two eliminating threat, and three - potentially painted as villain in history. I still marvel at how little Dems care for "the idea" and how much they care about their own bottom line 🙁

well, it's not just Teams and not just MS. Have you worked with Zoom lately? I do agree that Teams occupies that very special dark space in my heart right next to hate and loathing.

couple of details though: Canada right wing is a long ways away from US for the most part. Also AB almost got NDP elected last election which is, after 40yrs of unbreakable concervative hold on province is telling. So yeah right wing is correct but you've got to pay attention to nuances. Calgary and South of Calgary are good places to live with decent infrastructure. You go most places BC you'll be surrounded by a lot of conservative minded folk. In both provinces I've been surrounded by conservative minded folk which were persistently calling POTUS45/47 a nutcase. So... don't get too hung up on labels.

...so whoever didn't vote Haris effectively voted trump... we've been saying it along that all of that moaning about Dems would lead to Rep win. here it is on display

gotta love conservative-minded crowd: they are all about "privacy", personal freedoms etc. but at the same time can't keep their hands out of others' pants (proverbially and literally) and are nosy about everything. Isn't voting a personal choice? If my spouse doesn't tell me who they vote for I'll just say it's their right and move on with my life... but not cons... noooooo. Gotta stick their noses everywhere

Russian ties, if present, are indeed dangerous. Laying unsupported claims to "russian connection" is just as bad as any other libel or damaging unsupported claim. Should we spend time eradicating russian influence - absolutely. How do we do it without turning it into a witch hunt? I don't know how.

any time you buy DRM'd content you're subject to revocation of rights to use it. So buying such content along with purchase of devices geared specifically for DRM-only content is doomed from the beginning.

I haven't looked at youtube content for a while, however lately I can't watch any videos using libretube. Something about "prove you're not a bot" which I assume is a consequence of google's crusade against add-ons and 3rd party tools. Is there a way around it or are we done with YT?

I'm trying to make my own window sills in our new house. We have windows rather deep so depth is around 9in and wide - 42/60in. I'm looking at read oak vs douglas fir. Red oak is mainly available in sub 8in cuts. The only one I found in 9in is 3/4 thick. Would that be sufficient to support plant pots or potentially human sitting on them? However Fir I can get in various sizes so I was looking at 1in thick.

Which one would be more practical? Oak at 3/4 or Fir at 1in?

My reading was that fir is sufficiently softer so plant pots may leave imprints etc. or am I wrong there?

I've tried several clients now, and unlike Reddit clients I cannot locate any of the posts/comments I've upvoted in the past? Is that a bug/feature of the platform?

I just found out that sometime in the last month or so while doing regular updates Wine got bumped to 8.12... (likely from 8.0) and my games have gone haywire: Neverwinter Nights and Diablo2 would kind of start but then halt. Switching to desktop and back unblocks games for the next few seconds and then things repeat.

I've downgraded wine to 7.12 and things are working back.

Question: should I have done some migration step for 8.12 to work properly or is it even a known issue?

I am using PlayOnLinux for Diablo2 with System Wine and Vanilla System wine for NWN.
