Thanks. Have done some googling and just found out that subwoofers are extremely expensive in my country (New Zealand). E.g. subs that are $600 in the US are equivalent of $1,100 here. But then I see that DIY subs are a thing. Might look into that because I do have woodworking equipment, import the electronics and buy the MDF locally.

Didn't really consider HDR and brightness. Lots to think about.

Does the .1 really make a difference? I've been running 5.0 for a few years (Micca) and 1080p dumb TV from 2015 (I don't care for 4k) connected to a 2019 shield pro and my Unraid server. Been happy with the sound quality.

So more of a "cattle" than "pet" approach in general?

The article honestly reads like it was written by an AI tool.

Get a static ip if at all possible. The work arounds with a dynamic IP are simply not as good. Or if your ISP and router fully support IPv6 you could alternatively go down that route.

But then don't you end up having to subscribe two or more different providers? Or is there a particular monthly provider that has incredible availability? I have block accounts with three different providers.

Why do most people seem to go with subscription accounts? I've used block accounts for a few years and only have to buy more every 1-2 years. Is there some kind of benefit I'm missing?

Myanonamouse.net is an incredible private tracker for audiobooks that has semi-open sign ups. You just have to pass an interview.

Hosting personal websites on your own hardware is such a pain, and I would imaging doing it on a rpi would be even more of a pain than on x86 architecture. If at all an option I'd recommend hosting on something like github pages or better still on a VPS.

Mid 30s, healthcare worker but I suppose I'm a tech enthusiast. Use windows on work computer due to needing a few windows only programs for work, Unraid on my NAS, and Ubuntu on my VPS. So I guess 1 and 3 are true and half of 2.

VPS (Ubuntu on 4 virtual cores, 10GB ram, 100GB NVME)

  • Mediawiki with semantic mediawiki and various plug-ins and 650 pages
  • Orthantic and OHIF (radiology images)
  • Moodle (docker)

Cloud container provider (different to above VPS provider)

  • 3 x mediawiki sites

Homelab (Unraid on i7 4790, 16gb RAM, 3 x 10TB HDD, 4TB external disk, no cache disk yet, RTX 3070, fractal define 7 mid tower)

  • Plex
  • Komga (comics)
  • Audiobookshelf
  • Kavita and Calibre (books)
  • Photoview (family photos)
  • Filebrowser (work)
  • Cloudflared (zero trust tunnels)
  • Heimdall (dashboard)
  • Krusader
  • Plugins: docker compose manager, docker patch, unassigned devices

Have ordered an N100 mini PC from aliexpress with plans of installing OPNsense and running a couple VMs on it.

My gaming computer for interest, not currently hosting anything: 5800X3D, 7900XTX, 32GB ram, 2TB NVME, 2TB SSD, 4TB HDD, fractal meshify midbtower case.

I also have a Pi 4 and a Pi 3 that I don't have any use for currently. Open to ideas. I already run Adguard on phone and Ublock origin on desktop browser, and don't see any current use for Pihole.
