ascension is one of my favs, its a deckbuilder similar to the more popular dominion, but has really cool art (at least with the early expansions, the later ones i dont care for).

basically any game in the oniverse is also good like onirim, sylvion, cyberion, etc. those ones are made for single player but they also have two-player co-op (never tried it though).

tiny epic galaxies is also pretty good if youre looking for a small fast paced space adventure

theres probs better introductions to board gaming lmao and i dont know many co-op games aside from aeons end and spirit island (both of which are very good) but i like to play these personally

splatoon, JSR and JSRF, and BRCs soundtracks i listen to on a regular

i was also playing angband before! good game, pretty fucking long as roguelikes go. i havent made it that far in, i like roguelikes like dcss and cogmind instead, a bit more faster pace. still very much enjoy angbands curse and rune systems, it adds a nice zest of randomness

i do play a lot of roguelikes because i like the randomness and the replayability but i also play a lot of arcade shmups, puzzle games, and rpgs. ive been playing dark souls for the first time which has been fun :::3

jet set radiooooooooooooooooooo (and ikaruga and crazy tazi, of course) for dreamcast. if you like rail shooters theres also the panzer dragoon series for the saturn. for genesis and sega cd, theres also the shining force series which are (mostly) srpgs

slay the spire mods are pretty fun, i love the characters that the community creates. some of them are anime/touhou related but others make some unique (and silly) ones as well. yomi hustle also has a very big modding scene especially for adding custom characters, theyre pretty cool but i havent messed around with it much

oh shes from k-on? never watched it in full so i didnt recognise her lmao

ah, then nevermind then lmao. i knew there had to be earlier internet support for retro consoles but wasnt too knowledgeable about it. back to the drawing board

this is fine

i think the line between retro and contemporary for consoles is defined by internet connectivity tbh. the n64 only had internet with the n64dd (which didnt last long), whilst the ps2 and the dreamcast had internet support built in or via some adapter. so i think the line of "retro" stops at the n64/psx era but thats just me. the term will be subject to change anyways as time goes on so it doesnt really matter

yea earthbound is pretty difficult in the beginning (the first boss is kinda shit) and then gets more easier... until fourside and then the last "your sancturary" location

mother 3 in many ways is different from earthbound, its less surrealistic, more story-based and combat is a bit more streamlined but its also Super Good. both of them are one of my favourite games, i hope you enjoy mother 3 when you get to it :::D
