Miami fan here. The problem is that most of Miami’s alumni move to other states. It’s a private school with a small current-student population. The stadium is 30 minutes away from campus. And there’s just too much other stuff to do. I hate it though. We don’t need a 50,000+ seat pro stadium. Give us a small stadium near campus, and it’d be a lot better.

I had the pleasure of being at the game. Miami’s run game and defense were mostly there. But the passing game, which is usually our bread and butter, was a bit lacking. Hopefully it can all start the mesh as we get toward the end of the season.

Either way, 8-0 feels good!

Time for my biased Miami review. Their offense is top notch, and can keep them in any game. Their defense and special teams are absolute garbage.

Without Cam Ward, this team would probably be 3-4, unfortunately.

Cardiac Canes, indeed. The defense needs a lot of work if they’re going to compete though. But I’ll take the win any day of the week.

My wife and I have been trying to watch Rings of Power after the kids go to sleep. But we haven’t gotten too far yet.

I have a Miami bias, obviously. But I’ve now watched the play about 100 times. The ball was bobbling all over the place, touching players out of bounds, and is never controlled by a VT player. I have no clue how some ref called that a TD to begin with from wherever they were standing. But reversing it was the right call.

Sloppy win. But a win is a win I guess. I was confident the call at the end would go against Miami, as it usually does. I’ll take it I suppose.

Hah, yeah that one is pretty fun!

The game has been in weather delay for awhile. Just give me my football game!

Miami vs Ball State

The game starts at noon (Eastern) on ESPN.

Share your pre-game, live, and post-game thoughts here. Let the 2024-2025 college football season begin!

My 14 month old had a short wake up at 2:40am. For whatever reason (work stress, mostly) I couldn’t get back to sleep. I’ll be running on about 4 hours of sleep and caffeine today.

A 3 year old and 1 year old. Today, for the first time, my 3 year old daughter put some nail polish on my toes. Feeling beautiful over here.

Hi Dads,

I made a post over in !fedigrow@lemm.ee about possibly consolidating the many dad groups down to just one (at least for now) to encourage activity.

The general consensus was that we focus discussion over at !fatherverse@midwest.social because, among some other reasons, it’s the only community that seems to have an active mod.

I hope you’ll join me in posting over there!

Right now on Lemmy we have a bunch of dad-based communities with varying levels of discussion. From the ones I can find, we have:

!dadworld@lemmy.world - last few posts were about a month ago. Mod was last active 10 months ago.

!daddit@kbin.social - last couple posts were about 2 months ago. The post before that was about 5 months ago. Not sure about mod activity.

!dads@feddit.uk - last post was yesterday, with some other posts in past few weeks. Mod was last active 6 months ago.

!dadsonly@lemmy.world - last post was a few weeks ago, with a couple months in between posts after that. Mod was last active 10 months ago.

!dadsplain@lemmy.ca - last couple posts were a week ago. With about a month or so between posts after that. Both mods were last active a year ago.

!dadvice@lemmy.world - last post was 3 months ago. Mod was last active 2 months ago.

!fatherverse@midwest.social - last post was about a month ago, and the one before that was about 4 months ago. Mod was last active today.

To help facilitate discussion, what do you all think about consolidating the dad-based discussion to one of those groups (preferably a somewhat moderated one, which just seems to be fatherverse…) for now?

Shutting the brain down for a week.

Doge and "banana for scale" were big in those days. I swear.

Does anyone here on Lemmy log into a Remote Desktop on their iPad using VMWare Horizon? How’s the experience?

This weekend I aim to relax as much as my children will let me. But my younger daughter turns one on Sunday. So, we’ll likely celebrate that.

We’re inching closer to the start of the 2024-2025 college football season.

At this point we’ve had signing day and a bunch of transfers. Who’s your offseason champ?

I’ll make my very biased case for the Miami Hurricanes.

Solid recruit class, and great transfer portal pick ups in Cam Ward, Sam Brown, and Damien Martinez, among others. We’ve also lost a few good ones in the portal, though.

All that said, I’ve dubbed the Canes “Offseason Champs” several times before, and it has not quite translated to anything on the field.
