Is that where Ted's ego came from in HIMYM? I thought it was just Ted, but maybe all architects are horrible?

lemmy.world is fine, it's just being overrun/targeted and is understandably down an inordinate amount of time. Their admin team is great, I think, just...it's a lot.

Yeah, people just want a "generic" place because they generally don't want to be pidgeon holed. I have nice and inoffensive lemmy.world and lemmy.today accounts because of this. I'm basically a vanilla NPC in my life and "sh.itjust.works" is simply too spicy!

Probably because lemmy.world is down again.

Wait for lemmy.world to be back up and try again. If you can't login on the web, the tool won't be able to login either.

Just weighing in from a midwest born person, talking specifically about football (which I acknowledge is not a very inclusive mode to think about this)...

I find this to be very weird, though I'll be excited to see my hometown team come to play here regularly. It's sad to see the real regional football conferences go away. It would be a huge gut-punch to me if my Iowa team continued to play Minnesota, but stopped playing Wisconsin regularly, which is pretty much what is happening here with Oregon.

The culture, I've found, is very different. Eugene is saner, though admittedly a little less fun and more serious. Football isn't life, and that's probably a healthier way to approach the world. However, a lot of Big Ten schools are their cities and vice versa. They are quintessential college towns and the tailgating culture is city-wide, not just limited to campus or the adjoining neighborhoods (at least that's how it felt to me growing up). I don't know how this will translate here, but I'm guessing it'll just be the same as it ever was, but with different teams coming to visit.

It sucks for long term Ducks fans/alums. It'll be a curiousity for casual fans to see how it shakes out. People who don't care about sports here, which I think make up a much higher percentage compared to their peer communities, will continue to live their lives and it all will go on.

Football is doomed anyways. No one wants their kids to play. I certainly don't...anyways...go Ducks!!(?)

Yeah, but they have to be installed by the server admins. lemmy.world added them. I'm not aware of any other instances that have them, but I'd love for them to be standard. The a.lemmy.world is my favorite lemmy experience so far (though I can't...ummm...use it right now).

Yeah, if I were LW, I would stop allowing new users. I feel like servers should be either user or community based, not both. One for users has nice things like alternate skins (e.g. a.lemmy.world or old.lemmy.world) and ones for communities are focused primarily on having good moderators and being super reliable so that federations to them work 100% of the time.

At the very least the LW sign-up page should possibly have a step that points you to a similar instance that might be better equipped to handle the user load.

Yeah, I joined lemmy.today so I could have a place to go when my OG lemmy.world is down. I like lemmy.world, but it's constantly down (like right now). I suppose there's no reason I shouldn't just use this one as my primary, though I do like the other skins that lemmy.world added (old.lemmy.world and a.lemmy.world) when I'm on desktop.

MY BIKES BRAKES SQUEAK AND YOU CAN HEAR THEM FROM BLOCKS AWAY.

They've already carved that area up a bunch. Good to know. Will have to be more careful on Fillmore since I'm guessing that's where they'll route traffic as a detour.
