Ah, another ad disguised as an article. I understand the average person doesn't know how to do bike maintenance and would need to learn about pumps, patch kits, etc; but saying "no one told me I'd also need" a helmet and a bike lock is kinda ridiculous.

A few years ago I'd recommend Gaia, but it's gone downhill ever since the acquisition. Komoot or onX Backcountry may have what you're looking for. Caltopo is great for maps, but it's less user-friendly and doesn't have curated content.

What exactly do they even do

fwiw hosting, moderating, and curating the community content, plus maintaining a cross-platform app with a fairly polished UI is not free

warming up faster than the wet clothes and drying from inside the pile

not sure how true this is, but they do help dry clothes faster because they're knocking everything around more which distributes the air/heat better
