So an update of the event, in the end I brought a Xiaomi Pad 6 home and my parents love it as they've used Xiaomi phones before and get the hang of it pretty quick. I can now keep the Samsung tablet I bought just in case๐Ÿ˜Ž

That's what I gave them initially, and they hate it lol

Thanks for the suggestion! Somehow completely forget the Samsung lines.

Hi internet,

Lately I've been tasked to find an Android tablet for my parents since the old Pixel C I gave them a few years back is officially dead. My first suggestion is of course an iPad but they tried mine and didn't really like how the OS works.

They mainly use the device for YouTube, and asked if it's possible to have a tablet with video output capability, since when they travel they like to watch the shows they downloaded, and it's a hassle to bring a laptop every time.

Currently I think Xiaomi pad 6 seems to be a good choice, but I'm open to any suggestions.

Thanks for all the advice and feedback! Granted that it's not that secure running an extremely old android system, but in reality the devices will only be turned on for no more than 4 hours a month, I don't think it's a big concern. I think I'd use via for browsing and newpipe for YouTube as they seemed to still support old systems and are relatively light-weight. I'd let you guys know how it went down if possible.

About to move out from my parents and found the old Remix mini lying around collecting dust. Thought it might be possible to use it as a backup PC for light web surfing and YouTube when I'm back at home. Is that concept possible in 2023? If it is, what should I be prepared for and what to expect?

With the recent Reddit stuff and YouTube stuff, I realized I've been using numerous third party apps or services. The question I have is why the decision and how such decisions would really benefit the company. As an random user, should I be worried about it or even go back to the official Apps just in case the third-party apps would be shut down in the future?
