Long story short, I bought a laptop for the purpose of playing RollerCoaster Tycoon, a game you could play on a Windows 95. Love the game. I have been playing it now and then for over twenty years.

However Windows 11 was such a confusing experience. I don't know what happened. I loved Windows 95 and Windows XP, but Windows 11 is not it.

So with nothing to lose, I dipped my pinky into the Linux community and grabbed a whole new world in the process; a clean, functional operating system that can run a Windows game from over two decades ago, and more.

It's outstanding. My only regret is that I did not start sooner.

I really like the idea of containerized development workflows, but would like to know the experience of people who use Silverblue as a general purpose home PC?

On other distros, the console underscore cursor appears on a black background when the OS starts, then the OS starts showing the splash screen which often doesn't have the BGRT or the firmware logo and when it reaches the graphical target, it again shows the same black background with the underscore cursor on it.

Fedora on the other hand, shows the manufacturer logo when the machine has reached grub without a flicker and you can hit I think F8 to show grub during that phase for a few seconds until the grub timeout finishes, then it turns off the screen and shows back up with the familiar Fedora BGRT spinner boot screen. When it reaches the graphical session, the spinner in the boot screen goes away, leaving only the BGRT and the distribution logo until the login manager appears. This boot look looks much more pleasant and professional than the boot look in many other distros.

So I am asking how can I get the same boot look on other distros as I am looking to upstream these changes into VanillaOS?

I tried Debian 12 but it didn't pick the Wifi device, now on Fedora after a little hassle configuring the Wifi, I'm up and running.

I finally switched to fedora yesterday and I am absolutely loving it. I installed the KDE spin after struggling with Sway and Nvidia drivers.

I installed proprietary drivers for nvidia from their website all went fine except it asked me to edit xorg.conf file but I am on wayland am I supposed to create that config file even if I am on wayland to prevent any issues in the future?

KDE has the best customization features and I am in love. Might never switch DE.

Increasing the brightness increases the contrast way too much, even at 5% brightness the contrast is so high in some websites it hurts my eyes but if I reduce brightness its hard to see.

Battery backup isn't as bad as I thought, getting about an hour and half. Is it possible to increase it?

I upgraded to Fedora 39 from Fedora 38 but it's still has the Fedora 38 kernel. The GRUB option says Fedora Linux (6.8.9-100.fc38.x86_64) 38 (Workstation Edition) and uname -a says Linux ideapad.localdomain 6.8.9-100.fc38.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Thu May 2 18:50:49 UTC 2024 x86_64 GNU/Linux. On boot I get a warning that Fedora 38 is EOL.

But /etc/fedora-release says Fedora release 39 (Thirty Nine). And packages such as fedora-release-workstation is fedora-release-workstation-39-36.noarch.

Presumably I should have an fc39 kernel. How can I fix this?
