A cleaner which is better than Mi Cleaner. I recently unistalled it using universal Debloter. A cleaner which has cleaning cache and memory using apps. There are in play store but I feel kind of risky using them and Google also don't have that good security. Using open source knowing them wouldnbe safer. If an app exists on F-droid than let me know. Thank you...

I know that SMS is inherently insecure / not private. I use Signal when I can, but lots of people don't / won't.

I figure lots of people use Google Messages, so I use that as my default SMS app, figuring I'll at least sometimes be upgraded to RCS with E2EE. But it's still Google.

So what do you think? In terms of privacy, when a contact doesn't use Signal, am I better off with FOSS like QUIK (or something else?) that's always SMS, or Google that's sometimes E2EE?

I'm pro-FOSS in particular because I'm pro-privacy and pro-security, not so much for any other philosophical reasons - respect to you if you feel differently, just wanted to mention that personally I'm most interested in privacy and security arguments.

Anything else I should be thinking about here? (say, spam detection...).

Thank you!

I'm talking about FOSS apps that are better and/or more feature-rich than the apps previously used.

Reply with the apps you used and their FOSS alternatives if you can (:

I'm looking for a FOSS alternative to Pocket. Pocket lets you save links for later reading. It also has offline viewing and recommendations, but bookmarking is all I'm looking for. Preferably has easy saving options like Pocket. On Pocket android, I can share links with the app and it saves it. And on Firefox, just clicking on the extension saves it.

I've been using Nova Launcher and I love it. But recently I've started trying to put some distance between myself and "big tech". I've switched 95ish% of my apps to foss alternatives. But I'm hung-up on Nova because 1: it's great. And 2: I spent my hard earning $5 on it! Tell me why I should switch to your favorite launcher so I can reduce my dataflow to the big G! Please and thank you.

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share my experience using Claude AI to create a Solitaire game in just a few hours. It was fascinating to see how AI can assist in programming and streamline the development process. I never expected to go from concept to a fully functional game so quickly!

The game captures the classic Solitaire experience with a simple interface and smooth gameplay. Plus, it's open-source, so anyone interested can check out the code and see how it all came together.

Here are the links to try it out:

I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback on both the game and the use of AI in development!

Hey, I’m looking for different encrypting app to compartmentalize my different use cases (personal, work, school etc). So I’m looking for different app for each use case.

I’m currently using DroidFS for personal atuff. But cryptomator isn’t an option for me cuz it requirements. And I tried searching on fdroid on my own, but not all results show up. For example if search “encryption” FSDroid doesn’t show up for instance. That’s why I’m asking the forum to help out pointing to other good encrypting software in terms of privacy and security.

Also I have heard about openkeychain, can it encrypt files, image, videos?

I've been trying to get snaptube to work, but after the first little bit the download button for it disappeared, I re-download the app and re updated it many times, it came back for a moment then left again, it may be my fault

Is there another app that's a better idea to use?

People are getting enraged by every upcoming Android update. They are making it harder and harder to do open source/enthusiastic stuff on Android. They are doing exactly opposite of what they were supposed to do. They don't want you to Emulate, Virtuslise or Sideload. It is becoming a degraded version of iOS day by day. Atleast iOS got some AAA games in their arsenal. But what Android has? bloated adwares!

The only game that i liked was The Walking dead S1 and it's no longer available on play store! So i have to sideload it, but you can't do it too because Android will restrict access to /data and /obb folders.

If I'm trying to run Proot Linux distros using termux, Android will kill the process.

People chose Android because it had the freedom to do whatever the user wants. I don't know what is the purpose of the new high-end Android phone when it'll just run Instagram and YouTube. We will utilise nothing from our devices. Android doesn't have good games on their platform either.

Another reason why you shouldn't think open source=free
