Just received an email that Microsoft would be extending an offer. They want me to setup a call with them to go specifically over compensation and benefits.

My wife is pregnant and we are expecting the baby to arrive around late Dec 2024. I was planning to take part of my bonding leave as early as Jan 2025 with my current company.

In my discussion with them, I’m planning to ask them explicitly about healthcare benefits and what insurance providers they work with. I don’t plan on disclosing that I’m expecting a baby. Should I disclose this information ?

Does Microsoft have a waiting period like a year in some companies (my wife’s company does have it) before an employee can avail paid bonding leave ?

Anything else I should consider with respect to benefits in my current situation ? Pardon my ignorance, this is my first job change in the US.

Curious to see what others think here. There has been a lot of content on this sub that aren't what I'm looking for, and another redditor pointed out wouldn't be found on /r/apple or other tech company subs.

I am not sure how to create a poll so I suppose vote in the comments :) Just for fun, I am not a mod.

Thank you all for helping me throughout my journey with the HireRight situation with my high school not verifying my diploma for over almost 2 months. I have some great news. I just received the email from HR stating that they’re gonna coordinate with my recruiter to get my start date since i went out and got myself a GED to verify my Education. To all the people that were tired of me posting updates I apologize and to all those who assisted me and guided me through it I really appreciate the support.

Hi Guys,

A recruiter at Microsoft reached out to me after I applied through the company’s career page. They’re conducting an initial screening and have requested my expected salary before moving forward with interviews. Could you assist me in determining an appropriate figure?

Background: I'm a Master's student graduating this fall with 5 years of prior experience

Position Details:

Title: Senior Software Engineer, 4+ YOE

Location: Redmond, WA, USA

They want my expectations in terms of Base, Equity, and Bonus. After doing some research, I came up with these figures : Base - 160-180k , Equity - 30-50k, Bonus - 20-30k

I would prefer a higher base salary rather than equity due to the higher living expenses in Redmond. What do you think about these figures. Please advice.

Thanks!

I have an interview coming up for a CSA - Modern Work. I'd really love to do well on this interview, as working at MSFT is a dream. I've been using MSFT tech for 15 years, comfortable with M365, collaboration, Azure, things like that.

Just curious if anyone could share some insight on what I might expect to be asked? I'd like to ensure I’m prepared technically, behaviorally, etc.

Thanks a bunch.

Had the best designs & at much better prices. While it has admittedly been a mistake to cancel, mistakes can be corrected. Especially now with better capabilities with AI, Cloud, Azure & functioning uses like gaming services natively. I absolutely loved every WP I owned, from the OG Lumia to the MS 960 & would immediately purchase another if one was re-released.

My question is if I start working for Microsoft projects as a vendor employee, is there a possibility to become FTE? Or any other insights on this will be helpful for me.

It has been 25 days since I interviewed with Microsoft. Two weeks after the interview, the Hiring Manager informed me that they had no news yet. Last Friday, the recruiter mentioned that the team is still interviewing until the end of the month and that there's no news yet. He apologized for the delay and asked me to be patient for another 1-2 weeks.

However, this morning, my status in the Action Center changed to 'Not Selected.' Does this mean the process is over and I am rejected?, or should I still wait for an official update from the recruiter? This situation is becoming hard to bear. I wrote to the recruiter again about the action center status, but I haven't received a response.

I just started screwing around with Copliot recently, using it for quickly gathering, interpreting, and summarizing information at lightning speed, and have been using it in a lot of ways where previously I would have made a post on an appropriate subreddit, and have been having enormous success.

For instance, I have been working on planning out a new exercise routine for my long-prophesized return to the gym. Copilot was instrumental in quickly comparing different types of exercises including the muscles they worked, uses for those muscles, etc, so that I could understand the differences between them for example.

It even did a great job in its analysis of my finished schedule, confirming that I was properly splitting the muscle groups that I want to exercise in order to have 48 hours in between, grouping them together by areas of the body that they were working, etc.

I just have been honestly really impressed by how well it has worked. I tried it out on a few other things for fun as well, including more esoteric information like rules clarification for the tabletop war game Age of Sigmar lol and it did a remarkable job. I was really ready to be totally disappointed honestly, like trying to talk to my Echo or my Nest Hub Max, but I have been truly impressed instead.

The only problem I've run into so far was trying to teach it how to interpret a table that I had used to form my schedule. Ya know, each exercise listed in the column below the relevant day of the week. No matter how I tried to teach it or which approach I used to explain the concept, it kept taking all the exercises from ALL of the columns and applying them to each day, and then telling me I was probably going to overtrain my muscles LOL.

Other than that little interesting snaffu though it has been a remarkably useful tool. One more reason why more and more I find myself using Edge instead of Chrome. Weirdly enough, any google related website runs like crap for me in Chrome, like INSANE lag, but runs great in Edge. How ridiculously ironic is that?

Anyone else hired by Microsoft and had insane imposter syndrome? Any advice???

I recently accepted an offer that I'm pumped for, but am also feeling seriously nervous about starting. I'm an experienced professional and am normally confident in my work, but I guess this job just feels "next level" because it's Microsoft. I was totally surprised when I received the offer.

Would welcome any words of wisdom :')

Hey @Microsoft, whoever the teams are who worked on the new surface devices and windows 11 on ARM are, make sure they get a raise. This is what the future of Windows should be. I can't believe how fast this thing is and how long it's lasted. Low bars considering current Macbooks and other devices. But it is a welcome improvement. Thanks and keep it up.
